Role Summary:
We are seeking a hands-on Technical Manager to lead our Embedded Hardware and Embedded Firmware teams, with end-to-end responsibility for technical direction, architecture, execution quality, and delivery of embedded electronics for industrial drives, servo inverters, frequency inverters, and motion/safety products.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a pure people management position. The successful candidate will contribute to architecture, design and code reviews, design and code if needed, technical problem solving, and critical debugging, while mentoring engineers and fostering strong engineering practices.
Position Overview:
- Job Title: Technical Manager Embedded Electronics
- Location: Pune SDC, India
- Key Interfaces: Controls, Mechanical, System Architecture, Manufacturing, Quality, Cybersecurity, and Functional Safety teams
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Leadership:
- Own the overall embedded electronics architecture across:
1. MCU/SoC hardware design
2. Firmware architecture (boot, RTOS, drivers, middleware, communication)
3. HWFW partitioning and interfaces
- Define technology roadmaps for:
1. Microcontrollers / SoCs
2. Power management and embedded hardware platforms
3. Firmware frameworks, RTOS, and toolchains
- Drive design decisions balancing performance, cost, reliability, cybersecurity, and manufacturability.
- Act as the technical escalation point for complex cross-domain issues (HWFWSystem).
2. Hands-On Engineering:
- Actively participate in:
1. Firmware architecture discussions, code reviews, and critical module design.
2. Support hardware bring-up and early prototype debugging, including:
i. Power-up, clocks, resets, interfaces
ii. Joint HWFW debug using oscilloscope, logic analyzer, JTAG/SWD
- Guide teams in root-cause analysis of field, EMC, reliability, or performance issues.
3. Hardware Leadership:
- Guide the team on:
1. Embedded schematic design (MCU/SoC interfaces, analog front-ends, protection, monitoring)
2. Power supply architecture (DC/DC, LDOs, sequencing, supervision)
3. Component selection, derating, reliability and lifecycle management
- Ensure robust EMC/EMI-aware design practices and support troubleshooting.
- Drive collaboration with PCB layout, manufacturing (EMS), and test teams.
- Oversee hardware verification, including electrical, functional, and environmental testing.
4. Firmware Leadership:
- Lead firmware development for:
1. Low-level drivers and peripherals
2. Real-time firmware (RTOS / bare-metal)
3. Bootloaders and firmware update mechanisms
4. Communication stacks (EtherCAT, CAN, PROFINET, IO-Link, etc.)
- Guide implementation of:
1. Secure boot, cryptography, key management
2. Secure firmware update and rollback strategies
5. Cross-Functional Ownership:
- Work closely with:
1. Controls engineers (PWM, ADC timing, real-time constraints)
2. Functional safety and cybersecurity stakeholders
- Ensure HWFWSystem alignment on requirements, interfaces, and verification.
- Support certifications, audits, and customer escalations as needed.
6. Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and technically coach hardware and firmware engineers.
- Build a high-performance engineering culture through:
1. Design reviews
2. Verification planning
3. Knowledge sharing
4. Engineering discipline and quality mindset
- Support hiring, onboarding, and capability development across the team.
- Balance delivery pressure with long-term technical excellence.
- Structured, analytical problem-solving approach.
- Ability to lead through influence, not hierarchy alone.
- Clear communicator across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive, ownership-driven, and quality-oriented mindset.
Education:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in engineering in Electrical, electronics, Computer, mechatronics or closely related field
Experience:
- 14-22 years of experience in embedded systems development.
- Strong background in embedded firmware and hardware. Optionally, 70% proficiency in embedded firmware and about 30% strength in embedded hardware.
- Experience in industrial electronics, ideally in Servo drives, motor control, Frequency inverters, Motion or Power Electronics products.
