Staff Engineer - Blockchain & DeFi
About the client : A Fintech Unicorn
Role Purpose :
The Staff Engineer will be a senior individual contributor and technical leader within digital asset engineering team. You will architect, build, and scale the core services underpinning our blockchain and DeFi products - smart contracts, wallet and custody infrastructure, on-chain/off-chain integration layers, and the backend platforms that connect Web3 capabilities to a regulated banking core.
Key Responsibilities :
- Design and build production-grade smart contracts and protocol integrations (EVM/Solidity; other chains as required), from architecture through deployment and upgrade management.
- Architect wallet, custody, and transaction-orchestration services - key management integration (MPC/HSM/multisig), signing flows, nonce and gas management, and chain indexing.
- Build robust backend services and APIs (microservices, event-driven architecture) that bridge on-chain activity with the bank's core platforms, ledgers, and compliance systems.
- Own technical decisions end-to-end: system design, trade-off analysis, technology selection, and architecture reviews for the digital asset stack.
- Integrate with DeFi protocols, liquidity venues, oracles, and bridges safely - including failure handling, reconciliation, and monitoring of on-chain positions.
- Drive engineering excellence: coding standards, automated testing (including contract testing and fuzzing), CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Partner closely with Security, Risk, and Compliance to ship products that meet the bar of a regulated bank.
- Lead incident response for production issues in the digital asset stack, driving root-cause analysis and long term fixes.
- Mentor and uplift senior and mid-level engineers; influence the technical roadmap across squads without direct people-management responsibility.
- Stay ahead of the Web3 ecosystem - evaluating new chains, standards (e.g., ERC-4337, token standards), and tooling for adoption.
Required Experience & Skills :
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years building blockchain, Web3, or DeFi systems in production.
- Deep hands-on experience with smart contract development (Solidity/EVM essential; Rust, Move, or Cairo a plus) and modern tooling (Foundry, Hardhat).
- Strong backend engineering skills in at least two of: TypeScript/Node.js, Go, Rust, Java/Kotlin, or Python - with proven experience designing distributed systems at scale.
- Experience with wallet infrastructure, key management (MPC/HSM), transaction signing, and chain indexing/data pipelines.
- Solid understanding of DeFi primitives - AMMs, lending, staking, stablecoins, bridges, oracles - and how to integrate them safely.
- Cloud-native engineering experience (AWS or Azure), Kubernetes, event streaming (Kafka or similar), and CI/CD at scale.
- Strong security mindset: secure coding, contract audit readiness, and threat-aware design.
- Track record of operating at Staff level - setting technical direction, leading through influence, and delivering complex systems across multiple teams.
- Excellent communication skills; able to explain deep technical choices to product, risk, and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience in a crypto exchange, digital-asset custodian, Web3 protocol team, or blockchain-focused startup/accelerator environment.
- Contributions to open-source Web3 projects, protocol design, or published technical work (audits, EIPs, research).
- Prior experience in fintech or regulated financial services.
- Familiarity with account abstraction, L2s/rollups, and cross-chain messaging.
What We Offer :
- The opportunity to build a regulated bank's digital asset platform from the ground up, with real production scale.
- A high-ownership, fast-moving environment with direct exposure to senior leadership.
- Competitive compensation and benefits aligned to the Gurgaon market.
