Job Description

Role : Embedded Firmware Test Automation Engineer

Experience : 4 to 10 Years

Location : Pune

Key Responsibilities :

Embedded Firmware Validation & Testing :

- Develop and execute comprehensive test strategies for embedded firmware validation.

- Validate firmware functionality on MCU-based platforms including ARM Cortex and NRF52 devices.

- Review firmware requirements, design specifications, and use cases to create effective test plans.

- Perform functional, integration, regression, and system-level testing of embedded products.

- Verify firmware stability across multiple hardware revisions and software releases.

- Support firmware qualification and release sign-off activities.

- Identify, isolate, reproduce, and document firmware defects.

Test Automation Development :

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks using Python.

- Build automated test suites utilizing Pytest and Robot Framework.

- Develop reusable automation libraries, utilities, and device abstraction layers.

- Create automated validation workflows for firmware features and product functionality.

- Implement data-driven testing methodologies.

- Improve automation coverage and reduce manual testing efforts.

- Automate repetitive validation activities to increase testing efficiency.

BLE & Wireless Validation :

- Validate Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) functionality across embedded products.

- Perform testing for :

1. BLE Advertising

2. BLE Scanning

3. GATT Services & Characteristics

4. Pairing and Bonding

5. Connection Establishment

6. Reconnection Scenarios

7. Throughput Validation

8. Latency Measurements

9. Multi-device Connectivity

- Develop automation scripts for BLE communication testing.

- Analyze BLE packet exchanges and communication behavior.

- Verify wireless performance under varying environmental and operational conditions.

- Troubleshoot BLE interoperability and connectivity issues.

Embedded Protocol Testing :

- Validate hardware communication interfaces including :

1. UART

2. SPI

3. I2C

4. GPIO

- Develop automated test cases for protocol compliance and communication validation.

- Verify sensor interfaces and peripheral communication functionality.

- Perform interface-level debugging and root cause analysis.

- Validate device interactions across hardware subsystems.

Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Testing :

- Design, develop, and maintain HIL testing environments.

- Integrate embedded hardware into automated test infrastructures.

- Build automated setups for real-time device interaction and monitoring.

- Develop test harnesses for continuous firmware validation.

- Ensure repeatable and reliable testing on physical hardware.

- Support hardware automation and lab infrastructure improvements.

Device Control & Firmware Management :

- Automate firmware flashing and deployment activities.

- Utilize tools such as :

1. PySerial

2. Segger J-Link

3. JTAG/SWD Debuggers

- Validate firmware upgrade and downgrade scenarios.

- Execute OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware update testing.

- Verify firmware recovery and rollback mechanisms.

- Support firmware provisioning and device configuration workflows.

Logging, Diagnostics & Debugging :

- Capture and analyze :

1. UART Logs

2. RTT Logs

CI/CD & Continuous Testing :

1. Git

2. GitHub

3. GitHub Actions

4. Jenkins

Reporting & Analytics :

1. Allure Reports

2. HTML Reports

3. Test Metrics and Dashboards

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience working on IoT, wearable, medical, consumer electronics, automotive, or industrial
