Role Overview:
As a Performance Architect within the R&D division in Pune, you will serve as a senior individual contributor for the scalability and resilience of Avaya's core communication platforms. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, product architects, and global stakeholders to define performance benchmarks and architectural standards. Your primary impact will be ensuring that complex, high-concurrency systems maintain optimal performance under extreme load, directly influencing the reliability and user experience of Avaya's global enterprise solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement comprehensive performance engineering strategies to validate the scalability of distributed communication systems.
- Lead the architecture of performance testing frameworks, utilizing tools like Gatling to simulate high-volume traffic and complex user scenarios.
- Drive resilience testing and chaos engineering initiatives to proactively identify system bottlenecks and failure points before they impact production environments.
- Develop and maintain architecture simulators to model system behavior and predict performance outcomes under varying load conditions.
- Collaborate with R&D teams to provide actionable insights on system architecture, guiding developers on performance-oriented coding practices and resource optimization.
- Analyze complex performance data to provide technical recommendations to senior leadership, ensuring alignment between system capacity and business growth requirements.
Required Skill-set:
- Demonstrated expertise in Performance Engineering and System Architecture, with a proven track record of managing performance for large-scale, enterprise-grade distributed systems.
- Proficient in designing and executing advanced performance testing strategies, including deep experience with Gatling and custom-built architecture simulators.
- Strong background in implementing Chaos Engineering and Resilience Testing methodologies to ensure high availability in mission-critical environments.
- Ability to bridge the gap between technical performance metrics and business outcomes, communicating complex architectural trade-offs to diverse stakeholders.
- Possess 14 - 20 years of relevant experience in performance-focused roles within a high-tech R&D environment.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of performance-first development.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, hybrid office environment in Pune, engaging with global teams across different time zones.
This role is a strong fit if you:
- Have worked in a product engineering or R&D environment and understand the complete product lifecycle.
- Can influence product and architecture decisions using data-driven performance insights.
- Have designed performance strategies for complex, distributed, multi-tenant systems.
- Are comfortable coding, debugging, analyzing production behavior, and mentoring senior engineers.
- Can balance hands-on technical contribution with architecture ownership and cross-functional leadership.
