Zebra Technologies - Software Development Engineer II - Embedded System Solutions

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to develop, enhance, and maintain software solutions for products and systems. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills, experience with system-level software development and softwarehardware integration, and the ability to solve complex technical problems.

The role also involves code quality, performance optimisation, and using modern development tools, including Generative AI, to improve engineering productivity.

Key Responsibilities :

- Analyse software requirements and design, develop, test, and maintain software components for products and systems.

- Develop and enhance software using C/C++ and related programming technologies, particularly for system-level and product-oriented applications.

- Contribute to softwarehardware integration and troubleshoot issues affecting system functionality, compatibility, and reliability.

- Participate in technical design reviews and establish implementation approaches for moderately complex software development projects.

- Conduct code reviews, identify defects, and ensure adherence to coding standards and software engineering best practices.

- Perform unit testing, integration testing, debugging, and root cause analysis to resolve software defects and improve application performance.

- Review existing software and firmware designs to identify opportunities for optimisation, maintainability, and reliability improvements.

- Develop scripts and utilities using Python or shell scripting to support debugging, testing, and engineering automation.

- Use Git-based version control and contribute to CI/CD workflows, automated builds, and software validation activities.

- Apply AI-assisted development tools for code generation, code review, testing, and documentation, ensuring that generated outputs are validated for accuracy, quality, and security.

- Maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, code comments, test results, and user documentation.

- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders to resolve technical issues and deliver reliable software solutions.

- Work independently on assigned projects and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.

Required Skills & Experience :

- 5 to 10 years of relevant software engineering experience.

- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Equivalent work experience may be considered.

- Strong programming proficiency in C/C++ and sound understanding of software development fundamentals.

- Good knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and system-level software development concepts.

- Understanding of embedded software/firmware concepts and softwarehardware integration.

- Experience with software debugging, unit and integration testing, defect analysis, and performance optimisation.

- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, design principles, and maintainable software design.

- Familiarity with Python or shell scripting for automation, testing, and troubleshooting.

- Proficiency in Git/GitHub and working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated build processes.

- Familiarity with code review practices, software quality standards, and technical documentation.

- Exposure to Generative AI tools for software development, including AI-assisted coding and testing.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
