Job Description

Role : Applied AI Engineer

Drive enterprise AI innovation, intelligent automation, and production-grade Generative AI solutions by building autonomous agents, scalable RAG pipelines, and AI-powered applications across enterprise platforms.

Opportunity to be one of our first team members in Woolworths Group India in Bangalore.

Woolworths Group India is partnering exclusively with Zinnov Group to recruit for this position.

About this role :

As an established member of an Applied AI team, the Applied AI Engineer actively contributes to designing, building, deploying and improving enterprise AI solutions. The role partners closely with onshore Platform Managers, Architects and cross-functional engineering teams to transform emerging AI capabilities into scalable, secure and production-ready applications.

With a strong focus on Agentic AI, Generative AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and intelligent automation, you will take ownership of engineering AI-powered solutions, integrating enterprise knowledge and operational systems to enable intelligent decision-making and end-to-end business workflows.

What you'll do :

- Design, develop and maintain autonomous AI agents, multi-agent orchestration, tool-calling functions and Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations to automate complex enterprise workflows.

- Build and optimise LLM-powered applications and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using vector embeddings, semantic search, chunking strategies and context management to deliver accurate, grounded AI outputs.

- Proactively explore emerging GenAI technologies, open-source frameworks and agentic patterns. Identify automation opportunities, develop rapid prototypes and contribute innovative ideas to technical roadmaps.

- Develop scalable AI applications and microservices using Python, FastAPI and Pydantic. Integrate AI capabilities with enterprise systems through REST/GraphQL APIs, webhooks and distributed service architectures.

- Build, deploy and manage AI applications across cloud-native platforms, leveraging GCP Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Run, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD automation.

- Establish automated evaluation frameworks, golden datasets, regression testing, telemetry and observability mechanisms to monitor AI performance, detect hallucinations and continuously improve agent reliability.

- Implement safety controls, responsible AI practices, audit logging, data privacy and security guardrails to ensure reliable, governed and production-ready AI applications.

- Collaborate with Data Engineers and Semantic Engineers to integrate structured enterprise data, semantic models, knowledge graphs and graph topologies into agent-ready context.

- Take shared ownership of AI product performance, reliability and adoption by monitoring production feedback, identifying improvement opportunities and continuously enhancing deployed solutions.

- Work closely with onshore Platform Managers, Architects, Lead Engineers and business stakeholders in an integrated Agile squad environment, contributing to technical design, sprint delivery and product outcomes.

What you'll bring :

- Demonstrated experience developing and deploying LLM-powered applications, autonomous agents, multi-agent systems, tool calling, function calling and agent orchestration frameworks.

- Strong understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation, vector embeddings, semantic search, vector databases, chunking strategies and enterprise knowledge grounding.

- Hands-on experience with frameworks and technologies such as LangChain, Model Context Protocol (MCP), GCP ADK or equivalent agent orchestration frameworks.

- Strong proficiency in Python, FastAPI, Pydantic, REST/GraphQL APIs, microservices and software engineering best practices.

- Practical experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Vertex AI, Vertex AI Search, BigQuery and Cloud Run.

- Proven experience transitioning AI proofs of concept into production applications using Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions and automated testing.

- Experience implementing LLM evaluation frameworks, golden test datasets, regression suites, AI guardrails, telemetry, model monitoring and hallucination detection.

- Ability to collaborate with Data Engineers and Semantic Engineers to consume structured data, semantic models, knowledge graphs and enterprise data products.

- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, challenge assumptions constructively, develop innovative solutions and contribute to technical discovery beyond predefined requirements.

- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across onshore and offshore engineering teams, participate in architectural discussions and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Career Experience :

- Approximately 5+ years of commercial software or data engineering experience within complex enterprise environments, including 2+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying and maintaining production Generative AI, LLM, RAG or autonomous agent applications.

What you'll experience :

- Be a part of Australia's largest retailer.

- Opportunity to work on next-generation Agentic AI, Generative AI and enterprise intelligent automation solutions.

- Constant mentoring, technical learning and exposure to emerging AI technologies.

- Collaborate with experienced onshore Platform Managers, Architects and engineering leaders.

- Opportunity to contribute to enterprise AI innovation and large-scale digital transformation.

- A flexible approach to work.

- Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
