Role Overview:
Help migrate enterprise data access and lakehouse tables to a governed AWS platform. This profile has two specialisms: access governance and lakehouse conversion. State your primary specialism; the assignment will match demonstrated depth.
What you will deliver:
- Review catalogue, table and role inventories; identify readiness gaps, dependencies and migration risks with AWS consultants and customer engineers.
- For governance assignments, migrate BI and Athena access to project-scoped roles; troubleshoot permissions, audit role activity and support onboarding and offboarding.
- For lakehouse assignments, assess Delta tables and implement repeatable Iceberg conversion, reconciliation, query validation and recovery procedures.
- Test row and column access in non-production, including both allowed and denied cases; document implementation decisions and handover evidence.
Essential Experience:
- Hands-on AWS Glue Data Catalog, Athena, S3 and IAM; strong SQL and practical Python automation; evidence of debugging a live data platform issue.
- Governance specialism: implemented fine-grained access controls, preferably with Lake Formation; can trace authorisation and data access across services.
- Lakehouse specialism: hands-on Spark, Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake migration or interoperability; can explain schema compatibility, parity tests and safe cutover.
- Useful additional experience: CloudTrail analysis, infrastructure as code, cross-team migrations and automated security tests. The exact enterprise governance implementation will be confirmed during discovery.
Early Delivery Expectations:
- A validated inventory, an agreed migration design and a representative change with reproducible data or access tests. Senior candidates should be able to own design trade-offs and coordinate dependencies.
