Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW :

Teqfocus is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Unity + Full Stack for a client-facing product engineering engagement. This is a hands-on builder role for an engineer who is equally comfortable in a modern full-stack codebase and inside the Unity engine, and who can move fluidly between the two within a single feature.

This role requires both competencies in equal measure : full-stack software engineering and Unity application development. We are not looking for a full-stack engineer who has only experimented with Unity, or a Unity developer with limited backend exposure. Candidates should be able to demonstrate production ownership in both areas.

The product environment uses C#/.NET, Vue.js/TypeScript, MongoDB and Microsoft Azure, while field applications are built in Unity using C#. Much of the work sits at the seams between these systems - for example, a Unity client communicating with cloud services or a web experience that must stay synchronized with what field users see in the application. The engineer will own features end to end across these boundaries.

The engineering team is AI-forward. Engineers are expected to use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or equivalent as a first-class part of the development loop, while applying strong judgment about when generated output is production-ready, when it requires rework and when it should be discarded. Experience building customer-facing AI features is an advantage, but is not mandatory for this role.

This position operates as a senior individual-contributor role on a small, fast-moving engineering team, collaborating closely with product, design and customer-facing stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Unity application development :

- Build and maintain Unity (C#) field applications used to sketch, configure and publish pipe, duct and other MEP work from the jobsite.

- Write production Unity code across scene and prefab architecture, the component lifecycle, input handling, UI, performance, and the editor/runtime split.

- Own client-to-cloud integration paths including login, publishing and data synchronization between Unity clients and cloud services, with strong fidelity, resilience and error handling.

- Build and maintain automated tests using the Unity Test Framework (NUnit), including PlayMode integration tests and EditMode unit tests, and run them in CI as part of the merge flow.

- Help reduce handoff and stack-transfer fragility by treating Unity work as part of the broader engineering system rather than an isolated application layer.

Full-stack engineering :

- Ship customer-facing features across the full stack - backend services, APIs, data and web front end - working from product specifications and customer feedback.

- Design and build services and APIs that connect web experiences, cloud data and Unity clients, with reliable contracts and integration behavior.

- Investigate and resolve customer-reported issues by tracing defects across client, service and data boundaries and identifying root causes in unfamiliar code.

- Implement and maintain modern automated testing across unit, integration and end-to-end layers.

- Contribute to monolith decomposition, modularization and modernization as relevant touch points emerge in day-to-day feature work.

Collaboration and delivery :

- Use AI-assisted development tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor and GitHub Copilot as a first-class part of the development loop, including writing tests for AI-generated changes and validating output before it ships.

- Collaborate with product managers, designers and customer-facing teams to define, scope, design and ship features grounded in real design, fabrication and field workflows.

- Coordinate deployments and incident response with peers, and advocate for incremental, low-risk delivery.

- Raise the engineering bar through pragmatic code review, knowledge sharing and disciplined engineering practices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

- Both Unity application development and full-stack engineering are mandatory. Candidates should be able to demonstrate hands-on production experience in each area.

- Experience : 6+ years of professional software development experience, including production ownership of customer-facing features and systems - not only prototypes or proof-of-concepts.

- Full-stack engineering : Demonstrated experience shipping across the full stack. Comfort with at least one statically typed backend language, at least one modern frontend framework, and both NoSQL and SQL data stores. Strong proficiency in C#/.NET, or the ability to ramp on it very quickly.

- Unity application development : Hands-on production experience building and shipping Unity (C#) applications, including scene/prefab architecture, component lifecycle, input and UI, performance, and the editor/runtime split.

- Unity-to-backend integration : Experience integrating Unity clients with backend services for authentication, publishing and data synchronization.

- Unity testing : Demonstrated experience using the Unity Test Framework (NUnit), including PlayMode integration tests and EditMode unit tests, with tests executed in CI as part of the merge flow.

- Debugging : Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to reproduce complex edge cases, trace issues across system boundaries and identify root causes in code you did not write.

- AI-assisted engineering : Hands-on daily use of AI-assisted development tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or equivalent, with disciplined judgment regarding generated code and changes.

- CI/CD and DevEx : Working understanding of CI/CD pipelines and engineering productivity. Familiarity with SOLID, DRY, KISS, YAGNI and TDD, applying them pragmatically where warranted.

- Security : Working knowledge of secure engineering practices and safe handling of PII or other sensitive data.

- Communication : Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with product managers, designers and customer-facing stakeholders to triage and scope work.

- Education : Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

NICE TO HAVE :

- Customer-facing AI experience, including production agentic workflows such as multi-step planning, tool calling, structured outputs or retrieval, together with the evaluations, guardrails and observability needed to ship them safely.

- Familiarity with an agent framework or SDK such as the Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph, or Model Context Protocol (MCP).

- Mobile deployment experience with Unity, including iOS/Android build pipelines, device performance and app-store release management.

- Experience working with CAD/BIM-derived data, 2D/3D model sets, or real-time 3D rendering and visualization.

- Experience decomposing monolithic applications into modular or service-oriented architectures, including event-driven or message-based integrations.

- Domain understanding of MEP, BIM, construction fabrication workflows, or an AEC engineering background.

- A bias toward experimentation, putting ideas into practice quickly and learning through incremental delivery.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

A senior engineer who can genuinely bridge Unity and full-stack software engineering, own production features across client/cloud boundaries, and bring strong engineering judgment to testing, debugging, delivery and AI-assisted development. The role is best suited to someone who enjoys working across layers rather than being confined to a single part of the stack.
