Role Overview:
Design, develop, and optimize metrology firmware for single-phase/three-phase energy meters, focusing on energy computation (active/reactive/apparent energy, power, RMS).
Key Responsibilities:
- Take a metrology firmware module from architecture to certified product (IEC/ANSI accuracy class compliance, type testing).
- Perform RMS calculation, power factor analysis, harmonics, sampling theory, and calibration (gain/phase/offset).
- Configure metrology ICs/SoCs (e.g., Analog Devices ADE7xxx/ADE9xxx, STPM3x, Renesas, TI) via register-level programming and SPI/UART/I2C.
- Develop low-level drivers and work with RTOS (FreeRTOS).
- Debug using oscilloscopes, reference meters, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, QA, product).
Requirements:
- 10+ years of hands-on embedded firmware experience with C/C++.
- 35 years specifically in metrology/energy-metering firmware development.
- Knowledge of metering standards: IEC 62053-21/22/23, IEC 62052-11, and/or ANSI C12.20.
- Experience with calibration and production test tooling.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with smart meter protocols (DLMS/COSEM, Modbus, RF mesh, PLC).
- Knowledge of tamper detection algorithms and anti-fraud logic.
- Familiarity with functional safety/security (secure boot, firmware signing).
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Python for algorithm validation.
Team & Working Model:
- Work alongside a domain expert and metrology consultant.
- Lead/mentor a team of embedded engineers.
- Report to Engineering Manager.
