Job Description

This is a full-time, on-site Sr. Engineering Manager role based in Karnataka, India. The Sr. Engineering Manager will lead multiple engineering teams, providing technical direction, mentorship, and performance management to deliver reliable, scalable AI-driven healthcare products. This role includes working closely with product management, data science, and customer-facing teams to translate requirements into roadmaps, prioritize backlogs, and ensure timely delivery of features and integrations. The Sr. Engineering Manager will oversee end-to-end software development, including architecture reviews, coding standards, code reviews, testing practices, and deployment processes. Day-to-day responsibilities also include managing project execution, identifying and mitigating risks, improving engineering processes, and fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Core Responsibilities :

Team Leadership and Org Development :

- Lead, mentor, and grow 2-3 engineering teams (15-20 engineers total, including senior ICs, tech leads, and team leads).

- Own hiring, performance management, career development, and succession planning across your org.

- Cultivate a high-trust, high-accountability team culture with strong psychological safety and clear expectations.

- Partner with HR and Talent Acquisition to build diverse, inclusive teams.

Delivery and Execution :

- Strong Engineering Management and Team Leadership skills, including mentoring, performance management, hiring, and building high-performing, cross-functional teams.

- Proven Project Management capabilities, such as roadmap planning, sprint management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication in an agile environment.

- Experience with system Integration, including working with third-party APIs, healthcare platforms, and internal services to deliver end-to-end solutions.

- Remove systemic blockers and dependencies; escalate risks proactively with mitigation plans.

- Drive on-time, high-quality releases while managing technical debt strategically.

- Track record of driving engineering excellence, including reliability, security, performance, observability, and continuous improvement of development processes.

- Background in AI/ML-driven products or data-intensive platforms; experience in healthcare, healthtech, or related regulated domains is highly beneficial.

Technical Strategy and Architecture :

- Provide technical oversight and architectural guidance; make build/buy/integrate decisions aligned with long-term platform strategy.

- Hands-on Software Development experience with modern technologies, architectures, and best practices, including scalable distributed systems and APIs.

- Champion AI and Agentic AI adoption from LLM-powered features to autonomous workflow agents across product lines.

- Ensure robust data pipelines, analytics platforms, and governance practices that support both real-time and batch workloads.

- Drive best practices around security, HIPAA/HL7/FHIR compliance, and resilient system design.

Stakeholder and Cross-Functional Collaboration :

- Partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science, QA, DevOps, and Clinical SMEs.

- Represent Engineering in executive forums; translate technical strategy into business language.

- Engage with external partners, vendors, and customers when needed for integration or enterprise deals.

Requirements :

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across product, design, data science, and operations teams.

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

- 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with at least 3 years managing multiple teams simultaneously.

- Demonstrated track record of shipping complex, distributed systems in a fast-paced product environment.

- Hands-on or deep architectural exposure to AI/ML systems and/or Agentic AI frameworks (LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or equivalent).

- Experience with data analytics platforms, data warehousing, and BI tooling (e.g., dbt, Snowflake, Spark, Databricks, Looker, or similar).

- Strong proficiency in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and familiarity with DevOps/MLOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or equivalent).

- Excellent communication skills, able to influence at all levels from IC engineers to C-suite executives.

- Experience leading through ambiguity, organizational change, and rapid growth.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience in Healthcare IT, Digital Health, or Life Sciences, including familiarity with HIPAA, HITECH, and interoperability standards (HL7 FHIR, SMART on FHIR).

- Background in systems integration, EHR/EMR integrations, API gateways, EDI, or enterprise middleware (e.g., MuleSoft, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway).

- Experience building or scaling AI-driven clinical decision support, NLP pipelines, or predictive analytics products.

- Exposure to regulatory compliance frameworks relevant to healthcare software (FDA SaMD, SOC 2 and ISO 27001).

- An engineering background (BS/MS in CS, CE, or a related field is preferred but not required with equivalent experience).
