The Role :
Forward Deployed AI Engineering is a team at Avathon that is rewiring how the physical world operates. In this team, you shall work directly with customers to take the hardest operational problems as we develop cutting-edge AI-based Logistics Planning, Transportation Management solutions for Shipment visibility, Carrier Management, Load Optimisation capabilities and turn them into continuously computing, AI-led systems.
A Forward Deployed AI Engineer acts as the "human bridge" between cutting-edge, often proprietary AI platforms and the complex, legacy ecosystems of Fortune 500 clients.
You will design, build, and deploy production-grade AI applications that operate across real-world infrastructure where decisions propagate across thousands of nodes in real time.
What you will do :
Responsibilities :
This role operates with the intensity and ownership of a founder in the field :
- Own end-to-end delivery of high-stakes deployments in operational environments
- Design and implement a centralized Ontology that integrates disparate data sources, analytics and AI models into Avathon's Computational Knowledge Graph (Neon-CKG). The CKG platform unifies data, constraints, and decisioning, performing continuous computation across physical networks
- Replace static planning workflows with real-time, autonomous execution applications
- Build AI/ ML driven logistics optimization and predictive ETA models work side-by-side with operators, planners, and key stakeholders to define problems and deliver solutions
- Push systems into production that directly control and influence real-world operations
- Tune our standard predictive and optimization AI/ML models
- Rapid prototyping & productionisation by utilizing AI platforms to architect and deploy solutions moving quickly from PoC to production grade system.
Skills :
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Masters/ MBA is a plus
- 4+ years in developing ML models within the Transportation and Logistics solutions
- Experience with AI/ML-driven logistics optimization and predictive ETA solutions. Experience with agentic AI or autonomous logistics workflows
- Experience with carrier management, load optimization (FTL/LTL), and freight audit
- Knowledge of real-time visibility platforms and IoT integration
- Experience of Logistics Planning, Transportation Management (TMS), Freight Optimization, Route Planning, or Warehouse Management (WMS)
- Knowledge of EDI, API, agents standards and logistics data exchange (EDI 204, 214, 990, 997, etc.).
- Understanding of shipment lifecycle management (booking, tendering, tracking, POD, freight audit)
- Experience with logistics/transportation software (Oracle TMS, SAP TM, Blue Yonder, project44, FourKites, or similar). Knowledge of multimodal transportation (road, rail, ocean, air) and global trade management
- Experience building AI/ML applications in production. Strong foundation in machine learning, optimization, and system design
- Exceptional inferencing skills on applying necessary models in the field
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar
- Ability to reason complex, interconnected systems (supply chains, networks, infrastructure)
- Ability to move from problem to architecture to deployment without handoffs
- Customer facing skills : great communication skills to lead discovery sessions with C-suite stakeholders, bridge gap between technical teams and translate business challenges into actionable AI systems.
- Exceptional written communication skills : able to document builds, failures, and field observations in structured form that Product & Engineering can act on without a follow-up call
