Project Manager - Cognos

Job Summary :

The Project Manager Cognos will be responsible for leading comprehensive business intelligence initiatives with a primary focus on Cognos reporting tools.

This leadership position demands expertise in managing all phases of BI project executionfrom requirements gathering through deployment and optimizationwhile serving as a strategic bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams.

The role offers the opportunity to spearhead performance improvements, guide BI development teams, and deliver high-quality, scalable reporting solutions that drive business value.

Key Responsibilities :

- Collaborate with cross-functional teamsincluding business analysts, developers, QA, and data architectsto gather requirements and define technical specifications.

- Develop detailed project plans, managing scope, timelines, resources, risk, and budget to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

- Optimize and consolidate BI reports and data models for enhanced scalability, performance, and maintainability.

- Facilitate communication and alignment between business units and technical teams, ensuring transparency and setting realistic expectations.

- Mentor and coach BI team members on best practices, emerging technologies, and quality standards.

- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates, escalating risks and issues promptly.

- Promote Agile or hybrid project management methodologies to support flexible and iterative delivery.

- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling, process efficiency, and solution robustness.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

Must-Have :

- Strong hands-on expertise with Cognos BI tools (Report Studio, Framework Manager) and extensive SQL proficiency.

- Experience with report consolidation, optimization, and performance tuning in BI environments.

- Proven ability to manage large-scale, complex BI projects end-to-end.

- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

- Experience working collaboratively in matrixed, cross-location teams.

Nice-to-Have :

- Experience with other BI tools like Tableau or Power BI.

- Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies.

- Understanding of data warehouse architectures and ETL processes.
