About the Role :

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Full Stack Developer to lead the architecture, design, and development of large-scale, distributed systems. This is a senior technical leadership role where you will not only be coding hands-on when needed but also mentoring senior engineers, defining architectural blueprints, and driving best practices across the engineering organization.

As a Principal Engineer, you will set the tone for technical excellence, ensuring that solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned with evolving business goals. You will play a pivotal role in shaping product architecture, guiding teams across frontend and backend engineering, and advancing DevOps maturity.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work fully remotely while collaborating with global stakeholders in UK shift timings.

Key Responsibilities :

Architectural Leadership :

- Define and own the technical architecture, including distributed systems, service boundaries, event-driven flows, and integration strategies.

- Lead architecture & design reviews, ensuring alignment with best practices and long-term scalability.

Backend & Data Systems :

- Provide patterns, reference implementations, and frameworks for building highly performant services.

- Drive scalability strategies (multi-region deployments, zero-downtime releases, fault tolerance, disaster recovery planning).

- Shape the data strategy covering database design, caching strategies, data pipelines, and event-driven architecture.

Frontend & User Experience :

- Guide frontend architecture across React, Next.js, and React Native, ensuring high performance, maintainability, and scalability.

- Establish coding standards and best practices for modern frontend frameworks.

Cloud & DevOps Practices :

- Advance the teams DevOps maturity, including secure and automated AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, and incident response.

- Ensure production readiness with well-defined SLAs, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms.

Technical Leadership & Mentoring :

- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to senior engineers, grooming them into strong technical leaders.

- Be the go-to technical advisor for cross-functional stakeholders, bridging product and engineering perspectives.

Continuous Improvement :

- Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies, introducing relevant tools and frameworks to strengthen the tech stack.

- Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and technical excellence within the engineering team.

Current & Evolving Tech Stack :

Backend : Ruby on Rails, ServiceNow

Frontend : Next.js, React Native

Cloud & Infrastructure : AWS (ECS, S3, CloudWatch), Docker, GitHub Actions

Databases : PostgreSQL, Redis

Other Tools : REST APIs, OpenAPI, Feature Flags, Sentry Monitoring

(Candidates with strong Node.js / TypeScript backend experience alongside React expertise are highly encouraged to apply, even if they have not worked on Ruby on Rails previously.)

What Were Looking For :

Experience & Leadership :

- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including significant exposure in principal, staff, or lead engineer roles.

- Proven ability to architect, design, and deliver large-scale, cloud-native solutions.

Technical Expertise :

- Strong expertise in backend development (Node.js / TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, or similar).

- Hands-on experience in frontend frameworks (React, Next.js, React Native).

- Deep knowledge of AWS cloud services, distributed systems, and DevOps best practices.

System Design & Scalability :

- Experience leading multi-region deployments, high availability systems, and fault-tolerant architectures.

- Strong command over databases, caching strategies, event-driven patterns, and API ecosystems.

Leadership & Mentoring :

- Proven track record of enabling teams to deliver complex solutions at scale.

- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentorship skills.
