Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Principal BI Data Visualization Consultant with a deep specialization in Tableau. This senior role requires 8-10 years of focused experience in Business Intelligence and data visualization. The consultant will be responsible for leading the design, development, and deployment of complex, high-impact Tableau dashboards, ensuring data accuracy, optimizing dashboard performance, and translating intricate business requirements into intuitive visual stories for executive and operational consumption.

Core Responsibilities :

Tableau Development and Architecture :

- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the Tableau platform, leading the design, development, and implementation of advanced, interactive, and visually compelling dashboards and reports.

- Utilize Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server/Cloud, and Tableau Prep to connect, transform, and visualize large, complex datasets.

- Design and implement efficient data models, calculated fields, parameters, sets, and complex table calculations within Tableau to address sophisticated business logic.

- Manage and optimize the deployment lifecycle on Tableau Server/Cloud, including scheduling subscriptions, managing permissions, and establishing governance standards.

Data Integration and Performance Optimization :

- Establish secure and optimized data connections to various source systems, including cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery), relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL), and data lakes.

- Apply advanced techniques for dashboard performance optimization, including maximizing query execution speed, optimizing data extracts, reducing the number of marks, and efficient use of filters and parameters.

- Possess a strong understanding of underlying data warehousing concepts (ETL/ELT) and data modeling (star schema, snowflake schema) to ensure visualizations are built on a solid foundation.

- Write and optimize complex SQL queries to prepare data sets for high-performance use in Tableau.

Consultation and Stakeholder Management :

- Collaborate extensively with business stakeholders, data scientists, and data engineering teams to gather, analyze, and translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable technical visualization strategies.

- Lead and conduct design reviews and user acceptance testing (UAT) sessions, providing expert recommendations on data storytelling and visual best practices.

- Develop and maintain technical documentation for all dashboards, data sources, and governance policies.

Technical Governance and Mentorship :

- Define and enforce Tableau development standards, best practices, and governance policies across the organization to ensure consistency, quality, and maintainability.

- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers and analysts, fostering a culture of high-quality data visualization.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- Experience: 8 to 10 years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, data warehousing, and dedicated data visualization development.

- Tableau Expertise: Expert proficiency and mandatory hands-on experience with the full Tableau suite (Desktop, Server/Cloud, Prep).

- Advanced SQL: Exceptional ability to write, debug, and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction and preparation.

- Data Warehousing: Strong conceptual and practical understanding of data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, and dimensional modeling.

- Performance Tuning: Proven expertise in Tableau dashboard performance optimization techniques.

- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical and analytical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Skills :

- Certification: Tableau Certified Professional or Certified Associate is highly desirable.

- Cloud DW: Hands-on experience integrating Tableau with modern Cloud Data Warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks).

- Programming: Familiarity with Python or R for advanced data preparation or statistical analysis integration with Tableau.

- Governance: Experience establishing and enforcing Tableau Server/Cloud governance and security protocols.
