Role Summary :

The Looker Consultant is a senior technical specialist responsible for architecting and optimizing the enterprise data visualization layer. This role demands a mastery of the Looker platform and Google BigQuery, with a primary focus on building robust, scalable LookML models that serve as the organization's single source of truth.

You will manage the entire semantic layer, ensuring that complex business logic is translated into trusted, high-performance explores and dashboards. Beyond development, you will be responsible for system-level performance tuning optimizing SQL execution in BigQuery and managing Lookers caching and PDT (Persistent Derived Table) strategies to drive cost-efficient, data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and maintain high-scale LookML models, including the architectural design of views, explores, and complex joins.

- Architect and govern the Looker Semantic Layer, ensuring consistency in dimensions, measures, and business logic across all departments.

- Develop and optimize sophisticated dashboards that provide actionable insights, utilizing Lookers advanced visualization features and liquid templating.

- Perform deep-dive performance tuning of Google BigQuery SQL queries to reduce latency and optimize processing costs.

- Implement and manage Persistent Derived Tables (PDTs) and caching policies to enhance dashboard responsiveness and minimize redundant computation.

- Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to define data structures and schemas in BigQuery that align with Lookers modeling requirements.

- Establish version control best practices within Looker, managing Git-integrated workflows for collaborative LookML development.

- Conduct rigorous testing and validation of data models to ensure data integrity and the accuracy of calculated metrics.

- Design and implement User Attributes and Access Filters to ensure row-level security and personalized data experiences for diverse user groups.

- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in the looker-to-database communication layer, ensuring scalable analytics delivery.

Technical Requirements:

- 610 years of professional experience in Data Analytics and Business Intelligence, with a heavy specialization in Looker.

- LookML Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in writing and troubleshooting LookML code (Views, Explores, Refinements, and Sets).

- BigQuery Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Google BigQuery, including partitioning, clustering, and writing complex, optimized SQL.

- Data Modeling: Strong understanding of dimensional modeling (Star and Snowflake schemas) and the implementation of these concepts within a semantic layer.

- Performance Engineering: Proven experience with PDTs, aggregate awareness, and Looker caching strategies to optimize query execution.

- Semantic Governance: Proven ability to build reusable and scalable data models that serve as a "Single Source of Truth."

- Version Control: Hands-on experience with Git for version-controlling LookML development within a team environment.

- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to translate ambiguous business KPIs into precise technical logic and visual narratives.

Preferred Skills:

- Experience with Liquid templating in Looker for dynamic filtering and personalized user experiences.

- Familiarity with the Looker API and the development of custom data applications or extensions.

- Understanding of GCP (Google Cloud Platform) infrastructure as it relates to data warehousing and analytics.

- Experience in migrating legacy BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to a Looker-centric ecosystem.

- Excellent communication skills for conducting stakeholder requirement gathering and training sessions.

- Relevant certifications: Google Cloud Certified - Looker Business Analyst or LookML Developer.
