Role : JD- L2 DBA (MySQL-primary & PostgreSQL-secondary)

Core Responsibilities :

- Database Administration : Primary administration of MySQL (5.x to 8.4 LTS, 8.0) and secondary support for PostgreSQL DBs.

- Installation & Commissioning : Installation, implementation, and commissioning of MySQL InnoDB Clusters and PostgreSQL clusters in HA environments.

- Troubleshooting : Rapidly diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues, replication errors, and connectivity problems.

- Project Delivery : Actively participate in project delivery, ensuring database milestones are achieved on time and according to technical specifications.

- Operations & Redundancy : Responsible for database migrations, performance health checks, SQL tuning, and implementing database redundancy (DR) strategies.

- Proactive Support : Monitor databases closely to prevent incidents; provide ongoing support for configuration changes and DML operations.

- Documentation : Maintain high-quality technical documentation, including health check audit reports and project-specific database architecture maps.

- Stakeholder Coordination : Coordinate with customers, consumers, and product teams for technical discussions to ensure project requirements are met.

Technical Execution & Maintenance :

- Infrastructure Management : Administer MySQL/ PostgreSQL on Linux (Ubuntu/RHEL) and AWS RDS/Aurora.

- MySQL Expertise : Deep understanding of InnoDB, Buffer Pool tuning, and binary log management.

- PostgreSQL Literacy : Familiarity with pg_hba.conf, WAL management, and basic parameter tuning.

- AWS Proficiency : Hands-on experience with RDS, Aurora, EC2, and S3 for database storage.

- Cloud Integration : Configure AWS RDS Proxy and IAM authentication for MySQL/ PostgreSQL instances.

- Migration Support : Assist in moving workloads from on-premise MySQL/ PostgreSQL to AWS using Database Migration Service (DMS).

- Backup & Recovery (MySQL) : Take logical backups using mysqldump or mysqlpump; execute physical backups using Percona XtraBackup or MySQL Enterprise Backup.

- Backup & Recovery (PostgreSQL) : Take logical backups using pg_dump/pg_dumpall and physical backups using pg_basebackup.

- Restoration & PITR : Perform full restorations and Point-In-Time Recovery (PITR) for both MySQL and PostgreSQL based on business requirements.

- Deployment : Execute database schema deployments and changes as requested by application and client teams.

- DR Operations : Execute switchover and switchback procedures between production and Disaster Recovery (DR) sites.

- Automation & Pooling : Configure and manage ProxySQL or MaxScale for MySQL load balancing, and pgbouncer for PostgreSQL connection pooling.

- Replication Management : Configure and automate replication using MySQL Orchestrator or Replication Manager for PostgreSQL.

- Patching & Upgrades : Apply security patches and perform version upgrades (minor and major) for both MySQL and PostgreSQL clusters.

Monitoring & Observability :

- PMM (Percona Monitoring and Management) : Deep visibility into query analytics and MySQL/PostgreSQL metrics.

- Datadog / New Relic : For full-stack application and database performance monitoring.

- Prometheus & Grafana : Building custom dashboards for database health and hardware metrics.

- AWS CloudWatch : Monitoring RDS/Aurora metrics, logs, and setting up performance alarms.

High Availability & Traffic Routing :

- Orchestrator : For MySQL high availability and replication topology management.

- Keepalive / HA-Proxy : Managing Virtual IPs and load balancing for on-premise clusters.

- Patroni : The industry standard for PostgreSQL high availability (template for cluster management).

- AWS RDS Proxy : Managing connection pooling and fast failover for cloud-native apps.

Backup & Data Management :

- MyDumper / MyLoader : High-performance, multi-threaded logical backup tools for MySQL.

- Barman : Backup and Recovery Manager for PostgreSQL (on-premises).

- AWS DMS (Database Migration Service) : For migrating data between on-premises and AWS with minimal downtime.

Security & Compliance :

- HashiCorp Vault : Securely managing database credentials and secrets.

- MySQL Enterprise Audit / Percona Audit Plugin : Tracking user activity for compliance and security forensics.

- AWS KMS (Key Management Service) : Managing encryption keys for RDS/Aurora storage.
