Backend Engineer (Founding Engineer)

About Kite :

Kite is a stablecoin-native neobank reimagining cross-border finance. We help users hold digital dollars, move money across borders efficiently, and spend globally via local payment rails and cards.

About the role :

Help build the backend of our neobank : dollar accounts, wallets, and cross-border payments on stablecoin rails. Youll report to the Engineering Manager and own core services from design to production.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design and ship backend services and APIs for wallet, payments, KYC/AML, and remittance

- Integrate with blockchains and payment providers; handle key management and signing

- Write high-quality Node.js/TypeScript code; design and tune PostgreSQL schemas

- Own CI/CD, deployments, monitoring, and reliability (SLA/SLO thinking)

- Debug incidents and optimize performance

- Document designs and collaborate closely with product, compliance, and engineering leads

- Reliability : System Reliability and availability

- Integration performance : latency, throughput, resilience

- Security : zero critical vulns; safe custody

- Scale & performance : API/db speed, fault tolerance

- Code quality : maintainability, bug rates, reviews

- Delivery : on-time features/integrations

- Team impact : mentorship, knowledge sharing

Job requirements :

- 3 to 5 years backend experience

- Strong Node.js (TS/JS) and REST/RPC fundamentals

- Solid grasp of async vs sync patterns, caching, and high-traffic systems

- PostgreSQL : schema design, indexing, performance

- CI/CD, Git, testing, and good communication

- Startup mindset : ownership, speed, comfort with ambiguity

Nice to have :

- Wallet/blockchain rails (Ethereum/L2s/Solana), stablecoins

- Smart contracts (e.g., Solidity)

- Distributed systems/microservices at scale

- NoSQL knowledge (key-value, graph, etc.)

- Fintech/payments/neobank background

- Custody models (MPC/HSM), KYC/AML, FX integrations

- Cross-chain/bridges, L2 scaling

- Open-source contributions if any
