Job Summary :

We are looking for a hands-on Full Stack Engineer with strong experience in Python backend development and modern frontend technologies, particularly FastAPI, Next.js, React, and TypeScript.

The role involves building and maintaining product features end to end, from developing backend API services and designing relational data models to building responsive frontend applications. The engineer will take ownership of technical design decisions, translate ambiguous product requirements into scalable solutions, and contribute to application performance, reliability, and maintainability.

The ideal candidate should have strong backend engineering fundamentals, practical experience building production-grade React and Next.js applications, and a solid understanding of system design, database optimisation, and application architecture.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Backend Development - Python & FastAPI :

- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Python and FastAPI.

- Build efficient and reliable REST APIs to support frontend applications and product functionality.

- Develop backend services with a focus on read performance, data consistency, and write correctness.

- Work with asynchronous programming concepts, including async/await and background tasks.

- Implement structured error handling, validation, and reliable API response mechanisms.

- Write unit and integration tests as part of the development process.

- Identify and resolve backend performance issues and improve service reliability.

2. Database Design & SQL Development :

- Design and maintain relational data models based on product and application requirements.

- Write complex SQL queries to support application functionality and data retrieval.

- Analyse query execution plans to identify performance bottlenecks and optimise database queries.

- Manage database schema changes and execute migrations in live production environments.

- Ensure data consistency, integrity, and efficient database operations.

- Make appropriate data modelling decisions to support application scalability and maintainability.

3. Frontend Development - Next.js, React & TypeScript :

- Build and maintain frontend applications using Next.js and React.

- Develop product screens, dashboards, dense data tables, and forms with complex state management.

- Use Next.js App Router features, including Server Components, Route Handlers, and caching.

- Make appropriate decisions regarding server-side and client-side rendering.

- Develop reusable, maintainable, and efficient UI components.

- Use TypeScript to model application domains, data structures, and business logic.

- Understand and optimise React component rendering behaviour and unnecessary re-renders.

- Manage server state, client state, and URL-based state effectively.

- Ensure frontend applications work reliably with real-world data and backend APIs.

4. System Design & Architecture :

- Translate ambiguous product requirements into technical designs with clearly defined assumptions and trade-offs.

- Take ownership of technical decisions across backend services, frontend applications, and database architecture.

- Design solutions with consideration for idempotency, retries, timeouts, caching, cache invalidation, and data consistency.

- Evaluate architectural approaches and identify suitable implementation strategies.

- Prepare concise design documents before implementing changes that cross service boundaries.

- Identify architectural limitations and make improvements based on production experience.

- Participate in technical discussions and contribute to application architecture decisions.

5. Application Monitoring & Production Reliability :

- Implement logging, metrics, and distributed tracing to improve application observability.

- Identify, investigate, and troubleshoot issues in production environments.

- Monitor application behaviour and diagnose performance or reliability problems.

- Improve application stability through effective error handling, testing, and performance optimisation.

- Collaborate with relevant teams to resolve technical issues and maintain production quality.

6. Code Quality & Collaboration :

- Conduct detailed code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.

- Follow engineering best practices to maintain clean, readable, and testable code.

- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver end-to-end features.

- Document technical decisions, assumptions, and implementation trade-offs.

- Take ownership of assigned features from design and development through production delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

Python Backend :

- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing production-grade applications using Python.

- Strong experience with modern asynchronous Python frameworks such as FastAPI.

- Good understanding of async/await, background tasks, and structured error handling.

- Experience developing APIs and backend services.

- Strong understanding of automated testing, including unit and integration testing.

Database & SQL :

- Strong knowledge of relational database modelling.

- Ability to write and optimise complex SQL queries.

- Experience analysing query execution plans and troubleshooting slow queries.

- Hands-on experience managing database schema migrations in live production systems.

Frontend Development :

- 3+ years of production experience with React.

- Hands-on experience with Next.js App Router.

- Strong understanding of Server Components, Route Handlers, and caching mechanisms.

- Proficiency in TypeScript and domain modelling.

- Understanding of React component rendering and state management.

- Ability to distinguish between server state, client state, and URL state.

Architecture & System Design :

- Ability to convert business and product requirements into practical technical designs.

- Understanding of idempotency, retries, timeouts, caching, cache invalidation, and consistency.

- Experience making architectural decisions and evaluating technical trade-offs.

- Ability to document system design decisions and communicate them effectively.

Good to Have :

- Experience working with analytical databases such as Snowflake or BigQuery.

- Exposure to event-driven architectures and queue-based systems in production.

- Experience designing authorisation mechanisms, including row-level access control and tenant isolation.

- Understanding of scalable application architecture and distributed systems.
