Staff Sensor Validation & Characterization Engineer

About the Role :
We are seeking an experienced Staff Sensor Validation & Characterization Engineer to lead the validation and characterization efforts for next-generation LiDAR sensing products. This is a highly technical, hands-on leadership role where you will drive critical sensor validation activities while providing technical direction across the entire validation lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Sensor Validation & Characterization :
- Own the end-to-end validation and characterization strategy for LiDAR sensor performance.
- Define comprehensive test plans, validation methodologies, acceptance criteria, and traceability to system and component requirements.
- Establish performance metrics and validation frameworks to support product development and release readiness.
2. Laboratory Testing & Measurement :
- Lead hands-on sensor characterization activities in laboratory environments.
- Configure and operate test equipment and controlled test setups.
- Execute performance measurements including :
1. Detection range
2. Accuracy and precision
3. Resolution
4. Reflectivity response
5. Velocity measurements
6. Latency and timing performance
- Document, analyze, and communicate test results effectively.
3. Field Validation & Data Collection :
- Plan and execute real-world validation campaigns.
- Design test scenarios and routes to evaluate sensor performance under varying operating conditions.
- Support vehicle instrumentation and synchronized data acquisition.
- Collect and analyze sensor data alongside reference systems for performance benchmarking.
4. Automation & Tool Development :
- Develop and enhance automated validation frameworks, test tools, and data acquisition systems.
- Create scalable data processing pipelines and reporting tools.
- Improve testing efficiency, repeatability, and coverage through automation.
5. Data Analysis & Root Cause Investigation :
- Analyze large-scale lab and field datasets to identify :
1. Performance trends
2. Failure modes
3. System regressions
4. Environmental sensitivities
- Partner with hardware, firmware, optics, and algorithm teams to investigate root causes and implement corrective actions.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration :
- Define validation interfaces and performance budgets with systems engineering teams.
- Ensure validation results directly support specification compliance and product requirements.
- Support design verification activities, release reviews, and customer validation requests with rigorous evidence and documentation.
7. Technical Leadership :
- Act as the technical focal point for validation and characterization activities.
- Lead validation reviews, milestone assessments, and technical discussions.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers across multidisciplinary teams.
- Drive technical decision-making and validation best practices.
