About the Opportunity :
A confidential, high-growth technology company in the electric mobility and energy storage space is looking for a Head of Embedded Firmware to define the software architecture, engineering strategy, and execution roadmap for its next-generation battery management platforms.
This is a leadership role with ownership across firmware architecture, engineering execution, safety-critical embedded software, validation, and team building.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead and scale the embedded firmware engineering organization responsible for low-voltage and high-voltage BMS platforms across electric mobility and energy storage applications.
- Define the long-term firmware architecture, coding standards, software quality framework, and technical roadmap.
- Own embedded software repositories, branching strategy, release management, and software configuration control.
- Build robust SIL, HIL, and automated validation infrastructure integrated with CI/CD deployment pipelines.
- Lead development of safety-critical embedded software covering SOC, SOH, battery balancing, diagnostics, fault handling, thermal management, charging, communication, and functional safety.
- Ensure compliance with relevant automotive and embedded software standards, including ISO 26262, AUTOSAR, MISRA C, and automotive cybersecurity practices, where applicable.
- Drive software verification and validation, code reviews, traceability, and technical documentation.
- Work closely with hardware, systems, controls, manufacturing, and vehicle integration teams to ensure reliable product deployment.
- Own engineering execution, technical delivery, hiring, mentoring, and cross-functional coordination.
Ideal Candidate :
- 10 - 18 years of experience developing embedded firmware, preferably within automotive, battery systems, electric mobility, or energy storage.
- Strong expertise in Embedded C/C++, RTOS, bootloaders, CAN, UDS, diagnostics, and automotive communication protocols.
- Experience building production-grade BMS firmware or other safety-critical embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience with SIL, HIL, automated testing, continuous integration, and software release pipelines.
- Strong understanding of functional safety, battery algorithms, and embedded software architecture.
- Proven experience leading and scaling high-performing embedded software teams.
- Strong ability to work across hardware, systems, controls, and product engineering functions.
- Experience in building engineering teams and driving technical execution in a fast-paced environment.
Relevant Backgrounds :
- Automotive, EV, battery technology, energy storage, embedded systems, or adjacent deep-tech organizations would be relevant.
- Experience with organizations working on EV platforms, BMS, automotive electronics, energy storage, embedded software, or vehicle systems would be particularly valuable.
