Job Description

About the job :

Key Responsibilities :

Data Storage Engineering & Technical Leadership :

- Own the technical leadership, architecture, engineering, and delivery of multiple teams responsible for S3, POSIX, and NFS-based storage offerings, with teams located across India and internationally.

- Provide strong technical direction across distributed storage systems, data platforms, file systems, object storage, and storage protocols.

- Partner with architects and senior engineers on architecture, system design, scalability, performance, availability, and reliability of enterprise-grade storage platforms.

- Drive engineering decisions related to storage architecture, data management, distributed systems, storage protocols, performance optimization, and system reliability.

- Ensure storage solutions are designed to handle large-scale enterprise workloads with appropriate performance, scalability, fault tolerance, data integrity, and availability.

- Balance feature delivery with long-term technical health, maintainability, technical debt, and evolution of the underlying storage architecture.

Organizational & People Leadership :

- Build and scale a high-performing engineering organization focused on data storage and distributed infrastructure technologies.

- Recruit, develop, and retain strong engineering managers and engineers with expertise in storage systems, distributed systems, data platforms, and infrastructure engineering.

- Build a strong technical leadership bench across India and international engineering locations.

- Set clear expectations, provide direct feedback, and drive rigorous performance and career development processes.

- Foster a collaborative engineering culture across geographically distributed storage engineering teams.

- Champion developer experience through streamlined onboarding, technical documentation, engineering standards, and effective development tooling.

End-to-End Storage Platform Execution & Delivery :

- Own end-to-end execution for S3, POSIX, and NFS storage offerings, from technical planning and prioritization through development, testing, release, and production readiness.

- Define and continuously improve engineering processes, release practices, and quality gates for enterprise storage software.

- Drive predictable delivery while proactively identifying technical risks, architectural trade-offs, performance constraints, and dependencies.

- Ensure consistent engineering standards across all storage engineering teams and locations.

- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices and AI-assisted development tools across the organization.

- Continuously improve engineering productivity through CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, build systems, performance testing, and internal engineering tools.

Storage Systems & Distributed Infrastructure :

- Provide technical guidance on object storage, file systems, distributed storage architectures, storage protocols, and data platforms.

- Ensure storage platforms meet enterprise requirements for scalability, performance, availability, reliability, durability, and data integrity.

- Partner with architects and senior engineers to evaluate technical trade-offs across storage architecture, distributed systems, networking, compute, and data management.

- Drive engineering practices around testing, observability, monitoring, fault isolation, performance benchmarking, and reliability engineering.

- Ensure quality and reliability are embedded throughout the storage software development lifecycle.

- Guide teams in addressing complex technical challenges related to large-scale distributed storage and data infrastructure.

Cross-Timezone & Cross-Functional Collaboration :

- Work effectively across multiple time zones, with close collaboration with executive and technical stakeholders based in the US.

- Represent the S3, POSIX, and NFS storage organization in technical planning and leadership forums.

- Communicate technical architecture, engineering progress, risks, performance considerations, and trade-offs to technical and executive stakeholders.

- Partner closely with Product Management, Architecture, QA, and Solutions teams to align storage platform roadmaps with customer and business requirements.

- Coordinate dependencies with peer engineering teams across the broader platform, particularly where initiatives involve storage, networking, compute, and data infrastructure.

- Work closely with Support and Solutions teams to ensure storage offerings meet real-world performance, reliability, scalability, and usability requirements.

Required Qualifications :

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

- 15+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial experience in data storage, distributed systems, data platforms, file systems, or distributed infrastructure at enterprise scale.

- 8+ years of experience leading engineering managers and multi-team engineering organizations, including geographically distributed teams.

- Demonstrated experience building and scaling engineering organizations focused on storage, distributed systems, or data infrastructure.

- Proven ownership of complex storage or data platform products from architecture and planning through production delivery and support.

- Strong technical expertise in storage systems, distributed systems, data platforms, or storage protocols, with the ability to engage deeply in architecture and design discussions.

- Experience with enterprise-scale systems requiring high levels of performance, scalability, availability, reliability, and data integrity.

- Track record of working effectively across time zones and geographies and partnering with US-based executive stakeholders.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear guidance for technical and executive audiences.

Preferred Skills :

- Direct experience with S3, POSIX, NFS, object storage, file systems, or storage protocol engineering.

- Strong understanding of distributed storage architecture and distributed systems.

- Experience with storage performance optimization, benchmarking, capacity planning, and reliability engineering.

- Experience leading engineering organizations across India and international locations.

- Experience establishing or scaling an engineering hub in India for a global technology organization.

- Familiarity with enterprise on-premises software release cycles, including storage software release management, customer validation, and GA processes.

- Experience driving adoption of AI-assisted development tools and modern engineering workflows across large engineering organizations.

- Track record of implementing engineering best practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, performance testing, and reliability engineering.
