About the Role :

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer - Platform Engineering to build and scale the core platform that powers modern distributed applications. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, API platforms, distributed systems, and platform engineering practices, along with exposure to AI-assisted development workflows.

You will work closely with engineering teams to design reusable platform services, improve developer productivity, and build secure, scalable backend infrastructure supporting enterprise-grade applications.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable backend platform services using Java and Spring Boot.

- Build reusable platform components and internal developer tools to improve engineering productivity.

- Design and implement secure, high-performance REST APIs following OpenAPI specifications.

- Develop and maintain event-driven architectures using messaging platforms such as Kafka and Amazon SQS.

- Architect and implement SDKs that simplify integration across multiple engineering teams.

- Apply distributed systems principles to build resilient, fault-tolerant, and highly available backend services.

- Design and manage API Gateway implementations for traffic routing, authentication, rate limiting, and service governance.

- Implement Service Mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd for secure service-to-service communication.

- Build authentication and authorization frameworks using OAuth2, IAM, and RBAC models.

- Develop and manage Feature Flag frameworks to enable controlled feature rollouts and experimentation.

- Implement observability solutions using OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, logging, and monitoring best practices.

- Establish API quality through Contract Testing using frameworks like Pact.

- Integrate AI SDKs and Large Language Model (LLM) APIs while implementing production-ready patterns such as rate limiting, retries, fallback mechanisms, and error handling.

- Leverage AI-native development tools such as Cursor for development workflows and Claude for code generation, documentation, and engineering productivity.

- Collaborate with architects, product teams, DevOps engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to define scalable platform solutions.

- Drive engineering best practices including code reviews, performance optimization, testing strategies, and platform reliability.

Required Technical Skills :

1. Backend Engineering :

- Java, Spring Boot, Microservices Architecture, Platform Service Design, REST API Design (OpenAPI), Event-Driven Architecture, Kafka / Amazon SQS, SDK Design & Development, Distributed Systems, Platform Engineering.

2. Infrastructure & Security :

- API Gateway Implementation, Service Mesh (Istio / Linkerd), Identity & Access Management (IAM), OAuth2, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Feature Flag Systems, OpenTelemetry, Distributed Tracing, Contract Testing (Pact).

3. AI-Native Engineering :

- Cursor AI, Claude AI, AI SDK Integration, LLM API Design, Rate Limiting, Retry & Fallback Patterns.

Good to Have :

- Kotlin

Preferred Candidate Profile :

- 6 -10 years of backend software development experience.

- Strong expertise in designing scalable microservices and distributed systems.

- Hands-on experience building platform engineering solutions and internal developer platforms.

- Deep understanding of API security, authentication, authorization, and observability.

- Experience working with cloud-native architectures and modern backend frameworks.

- Familiarity with AI-assisted software development practices and LLM integrations.

- Strong problem-solving, system design, and architectural decision-making skills.

- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
