Role Purpose:
The DevOps / CI-CD Engineer owns the build, release and infrastructure automation that connects Dynamics 365 (CE and F&O), Power Platform, Power BI and the surrounding Azure landscape. The role is the engineering backbone of our ALM model designing pipelines, codifying infrastructure, instrumenting monitoring and enabling fast, safe, repeatable delivery for every team that touches the Microsoft cloud estate.
Key Responsibilities:
Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (CE) ALM:
- Build and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines for CE / Dataverse solutions using Power Platform Build Tools, the Power Platform CLI and native Power Platform Pipelines.
- Implement automated solution checking, dependency analysis, managed-solution build and multi-environment deployment.
- Integrate Dataverse Git source control with branch policies, PR validation and release-gate approvals.
Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O) ALM:
- Design and operate F&O build pipelines (Build VM, asset library, package generation) and release pipelines (LCS or PPAC API-driven).
- Automate code-promotion through Dev - Build - Test - UAT - Pre-Prod - Production with package signing and ISV-licence handling.
- Coordinate F&O service updates and quality updates with the Platform Engineer.
ALM CI/CD:
- Define and enforce the CI/CD reference model: trunk-based development, PR-validated builds, automated tests, gated releases and full traceability.
- Standardise pipeline templates (YAML) and build agents (self-hosted where required for F&O).
- Maintain pipeline observability (durations, failure rates, MTTR) and continuously reduce lead time to production.
Azure DevOps Administration:
- Administer the Azure DevOps organisation: projects, repos, pipelines, environments, agent pools, variable groups, service connections.
- Manage Azure DevOps security model, including PAT lifecycle, parallelism, retention policies and audit logging.
- Govern work-item templates, board configuration and integration with Microsoft Teams.
Azure Cloud:
- Provision and lifecycle-manage Azure resources that support the Dynamics estate: Storage, Key Vault, Service Bus, Logic Apps, Function Apps, API Management, Data Lake, SQL.
- Operate identity foundations: Entra ID app registrations, managed identities, service principals and RBAC.
- Optimise spend through cost monitoring, tagging, reserved instances and Azure Advisor recommendations.
Infrastructure as Code - Terraform:
- Own the Terraform codebase for Azure infrastructure used by D365, Power Platform integrations and Power BI.
- Maintain module versioning, remote state (with locking), workspace strategy and pipeline-driven plan/apply workflows.
- Provide reusable modules for resource groups, Key Vault, Logic Apps, Function Apps, Storage and networking.
Monitoring & Observability:
- Design end-to-end observability across the Dynamics and integration estate using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, KQL workbooks and Azure Dashboards.
- Define SLOs / SLIs for critical interfaces (Dual Write, F&O integrations, Logic Apps, Functions) and operate alerting to ITSM / on-call.
- Build and maintain post-incident reporting tooling and trend dashboards.
Power BI:
- Operate ALM for Power BI in Fabric: workspaces, deployment pipelines, semantic-model promotion (Dev - Test - Prod).
- Automate publishing of Power BI artefacts through Azure DevOps where appropriate and govern Service Principal-based deployments.
- Support the data team on capacity monitoring, refresh telemetry and gateway management.
Dual Write:
- Operate the deployment, configuration and monitoring of Dual Write mappings between F&O and Dataverse in partnership with the Platform Engineer.
- Build alerting for Dual Write sync failures, latency and re-initialisation events.
Use of AI:
- Use GitHub Copilot, Copilot in Azure and Copilot for Power Platform to accelerate pipeline authoring, Terraform module development and KQL query authoring.
- Deploy AI-assisted release notes (e.g. Copilot Studio over ADO work items) and AI-assisted log triage where it adds measurable value.
- Govern AI tool usage in CI/CD - secret handling, model selection, review of AI-generated configuration.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years in a DevOps / Platform Engineering role with strong Azure DevOps experience.
- Hands-on CI/CD for Dynamics 365 (CE and F&O), including Power Platform Build Tools and Power Platform CLI.
- Strong YAML pipeline authoring, including templates, multi-stage releases and approvals.
- Production Terraform experience with module design and remote state.
- Strong Azure foundations: Entra ID, RBAC, Key Vault, Storage, Networking, App Services, Logic Apps, Functions.
- Solid monitoring and observability practice using Azure Monitor, App Insights and KQL.
- Experience operating Dual Write or equivalent ERP-CRM sync in production.
- Familiarity with Power BI ALM and deployment pipelines.
- Confident with PowerShell and at least one of Bash, Python or C#.
Desirable:
- Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400).
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305).
- Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate (PL-400) or Solution Architect Expert (PL-600).
- HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate.
- Exposure to GitHub Actions in addition to Azure DevOps.
- Experience operating in a regulated industry (food, life sciences, agri-genetics).
