Role : Field Application Engineer
Job Summary :
We are looking for a Field Application Engineer (FAE) specializing in Vehicle Network Data Collection and CAN Parameter Analysis. The role involves traveling to customer locations to capture, analyze, and document vehicle network data across different makes and models.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on automotive diagnostics experience, strong CAN protocol knowledge, and the ability to independently perform on-vehicle testing and signal validation in real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities :
Field Data Collection & Customer Support :
- Visit customer sites to collect vehicle network data across various makes and models.
- Perform CAN bus logging using industry tools (Vector CANalyzer/CANoe, Kvaser, Peak etc.).
- Interface with OEM and fleet customers for data acquisition requirements.
- Configure data loggers and telematics devices on vehicles.
- Ensure safe and compliant on-vehicle testing procedures.
Make-wise / Model-wise Network Mapping :
- Analyze vehicle network architecture for different OEMs.
- Perform reverse engineering of CAN messages when DBC files are unavailable.
- Extract, validate, and document signals for each vehicle make and model.
- Develop and maintain make-wise/model-wise signal databases.
- Compare network variations across trims, variants, and production years.
Technical Analysis & Reporting :
- Decode CAN, LIN, and diagnostic data (OBD-II, UDS, ISO-TP).
- Correlate raw CAN frames with real vehicle behavior.
- Create and update DBC files and signal documentation.
- Generate structured technical reports for internal engineering teams.
- Provide technical feedback to product and R&D teams.
- Develop basic scripts (Python/CAPL) for data parsing and signal mining.
- Maintain standardized logging and validation procedures.
- Support validation of telematics/ECU integration in field environments.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Electrical, Electronics, Automotive, or related engineering field.
- 1 - 4 years of hands-on experience in automotive diagnostics or vehicle network analysis.
- Strong understanding of CAN architecture and message structure.
- Experience with automotive diagnostic tools and data loggers.
- Practical experience with OBD-II and UDS diagnostics.
- Willingness to travel frequently to customer locations.
- Valid driving license and comfort working with vehicles onsite.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience working with multiple OEM vehicle platforms.
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR-based ECUs.
- Experience in telematics system integration.
- Knowledge of electric vehicle (EV) communication networks (BMS, inverter, charger).
- Basic understanding of automotive cybersecurity concepts.
