Job Title : Technical Lead Mainframe to Java Migration

Location : Bangalore, India

Engagement Type : Contract (Hourly)

Role Overview :

We are seeking a Technical Lead to guide a large-scale Mainframe Modernization initiative involving COBOL-to-Java code migration. The role requires strong technical depth across mainframe technologies, Java, and cloud architectures, with hands-on experience in application refactoring, data migration, and validation processes.

Key Responsibilities :

- Lead the modernization effort from COBOL to Java, leveraging CloudFrame for automated conversion

- Define migration approach and roadmap, including assessment, code analysis, and target architecture alignment

- Review and validate auto-generated Java code, ensuring adherence to modern coding standards and architectural principles

- Guide teams on integration, testing, and optimization of converted applications.

- Collaborate with CloudFrame, infrastructure, and QA teams to resolve functional and performance issues

- Ensure data model alignment, DB2 schema migration, and integration with downstream systems

- Provide technical governance and enforce best practices in code quality, CI/CD, and configuration management

- Support functional validation to ensure business logic parity between legacy and modernized applications

- Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and communicate status to client leadership

Required Skills :

- Mainframe Experience: Strong understanding of COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and batch processing

- Modern Stack Expertise: Hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot), REST APIs, and microservices

- Migration Tools: Prior exposure to CloudFrame, Heirloom, Micro Focus, or similar automated refactoring tools

- Database: DB2 (Mainframe and LUW), SQL, data migration utilities

- Integration: Experience with middleware, APIs, or messaging systems

- Testing & Validation: Familiarity with automation frameworks, regression validation, and performance tuning

- Cloud Knowledge: Exposure to cloud-native deployment (AWS, Azure, or GCP preferred)

- Strong problem-solving, leadership, and client communication skills.
