Engineering Manager

The Engineering Manager SRE & DRE will lead and develop India-based Site Reliability and Database Reliability Engineers, owning their career growth, performance, wellbeing and team capability while acting as the senior technical authority (Principal SRE-level) during India working hours.

About this role

The Engineering Manager (India) is a unique and critical role within WDigital's reliability engineering organisation, part of the Services, Operations and Infrastructure (SOI) division of Group IT. You carry two equally important accountabilities: the direct line management and career development of India-based Site Reliability and Database Reliability Engineers, and the senior technical leadership that keeps the India team moving forward with confidence and capability.

What you'll do

- Directly manage the career development, performance, wellbeing, and day to day experience of India-based SREs and DREs.

- Work closely with AU Engineering Managers to ensure India-based engineers are effectively integrated into their domain squads.

- Champion a blameless, psychologically safe engineering culture within the India team.

- Provide senior technical guidance and escalation capability during India working hours.

- Lead on complex and high-impact technical initiatives within the GCC, applying expertise close to Principal SRE level.

- Participate in architectural reviews, technical design discussions, and cross-squad reliability conversations.

- Collaborate closely with Principal SREs, Senior SREs, and Senior DREs to ensure technical standards are consistent.

What you'll bring

- A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in SRE, platform engineering, or distributed systems roles.

- Demonstrated experience directly managing or leading a team of engineers.

- Deep, demonstrated experience in resilient cloud solution design and distributed systems architecture across a multi-cloud environment (GCP and Azure).

- Strong experience with enterprise-scale Kubernetes (GKE or AKS), Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

- Strong command of modern observability practice (Dynatrace, Splunk, NewRelic).

- Strong scripting and software engineering proficiency in at least one language (Go, Python, or Bash).
