Wayfair is seeking a Senior Engineering leader to shape and scale our global fraud and payments infrastructure and integrations. This leader will be responsible for the end-to-end architecture, development, and optimization of our payments ecosystemspanning digital wallets, cards, alternative payment methods (APMs), fraud prevention, and supporting payment reconciliation systems. This leader will partner cross-functionally with product, other engineering teams, finance, legal, risk, and business teams to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant solutions that support billions of dollars in global transactions annually and help Wayfair's millions of customers shop confidently by making transactions with Wayfair secure, seamless, and convenient.

The core responsibilities for the job include the following :

Technology Leadership and Strategy :

- Define and execute the long-term architectural vision and engineering roadmap for payments platforms.

- Build and evolve modular, API-first payment services that support multiple payment types (cards, APMs, wallets, ACH, RTP, split payments).

- Build and evolve the payment SDK to expand to other types of payment methods and personalization.

- Ensure the platform can support high throughput, low latency, and robust failover across regions and partners.

- Evolve the platform to support new use cases such as agentic commerce.

Team Leadership and Organizational Growth :

- Lead and scale high-performing engineering teams focused on payment processing, settlement, fraud detection, and financial reporting.

- Attract and retain top engineering talent while fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and accountability.

- Mentor engineering managers and senior ICs, guiding career growth and leadership development of 6+ teams based in Bangalore in partnership with their functional managers and pod leads.

Engineering Execution :

- Ensure high engineering standards and operational excellence in code quality, deployment, testing, and monitoring.

- Drive initiatives around scalability, resiliency, performance optimization, and cloud-native architecture.

- Own the full SDLC for critical systems that handle sensitive financial and customer data.

- Championing AI code-assist adoption to improve productivity and velocity.

Cross-functional Collaboration :

- Partner with many teams, including Cart, Checkout, Financing, Loyalty, Gift Card, Post Order, and Finance to drive end-to-end cohesive and scalable architecture, manage delivery with dependent teams, coach and maintain, as well as deliver across a broad set of payment journeys.

- Partner with Product to prioritize and deliver key payment features and enhancements.

- Collaborate with Security, Compliance, and Risk teams to ensure alignment with industry standards such as PCI DSS, SOC2 and global regulatory requirements.

- Work closely with Finance on transaction integrity, ledger consistency, and reconciliation.

Innovation and Industry Awareness :

- Stay ahead of emerging payment technologies, security threats, and compliance mandates.

- Evaluate new tools, platforms, and vendors in the fintech ecosystem to maintain a modern and competitive tech stack.

- Define technical strategy in the world of agentic commerce

- Drive experimentation with new payment methods, tokenization, and fraud prevention techniques.

Requirements :

- 18+ years of experience in engineering with at least 8 years in senior engineering leadership roles with significant work in Payments or FinTech at scale.

- Proven people leadership experience with a track record of coaching, mentoring, and building high-performing engineering teams in multiple geographies.

- Proven experience designing, building, and operating large-scale, high-availability payment or financial systems.

- Expertise in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-native platforms (e. g., Azure, AWS, GCP).

- Deep domain expertise of global Payments infrastructure, including gateways, processors, and networks.

- Strong hands-on understanding of authorization, routing, tokenization, and related systems.

- Strong platform mindset with the ability to balance long-term platform investments with immediate business needs.

- Strong understanding of security and compliance best practices in a regulated environment.

- Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills with experience in leading technical discovery & delivery of large-scale payment-related initiatives

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to influence both technical and business stakeholders.
