Virtusa - Application Developer - Oracle PL-SQL

Role Overview :

We are looking for an experienced Application Developer with strong expertise in Oracle PL/SQL, SQL, Unix/Linux, and SmartStream TLM. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in developing and supporting database-driven applications, writing complex SQL/PLSQL programs, troubleshooting production issues, and working with SmartStream TLM solutions in financial services environments.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain applications and database components using Oracle PL/SQL.

- Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, packages, and database scripts.

- Work with SmartStream TLM solutions to support application development, configuration, enhancements, and operational processes.

- Develop and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for file processing, batch execution, scheduling, monitoring, and application support.

- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effective application and database solutions.

- Perform backend data analysis, data validation, and troubleshooting of database and application issues.

- Investigate and resolve production issues, including data discrepancies, processing failures, and performance-related problems.

- Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, development best practices, and SDLC processes.

- Support unit testing, system integration testing, deployment, and production releases.

- Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, QA teams, operations teams, and other stakeholders to deliver application enhancements.

- Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to application components, database objects, scripts, and support processes.

- Contribute to application and database performance optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience :

- 5 - 10 years of experience in application development, database development, or a closely related field.

- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle PL/SQL.

- Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, joins, subqueries, analytical queries, and data manipulation.

- Good understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems.

- Hands-on experience with Shell Scripting and Unix/Linux file-system operations.

- Experience with SmartStream TLM / Transaction Lifecycle Management.

- Good understanding of database-driven enterprise applications and backend processing.

- Experience troubleshooting application, database, and production issues.

- Experience working with cross-functional teams in large-scale enterprise projects.

- Good understanding of SDLC, Agile development practices, testing, and deployment processes.

- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

- Good communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
