Position : Client Engineer (Software Asset Management)

Job Summary :
We are seeking a highly experienced Client Engineer (Software Asset Management) with 7+ years of experience. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the entire lifecycle of software assets within our organization. This includes managing procurement, deployment, tracking, maintenance, and retirement of software licenses and subscriptions. You will play a crucial role in ensuring license compliance, mitigating risks, and driving cost optimization through strategic analysis and vendor management.
Key Responsibilities :
- Software Lifecycle Management : Manage the entire lifecycle of software assets, from initial procurement and deployment to usage monitoring and eventual retirement or disposal. This includes overseeing software installation, upgrades, patches, and uninstallation processes to maintain a clean and compliant environment.
- License Compliance & Risk Mitigation : Ensure the organization's adherence to all software licensing agreements, terms, and conditions. Implement robust processes and controls to minimize risks associated with software piracy, vendor audits, and non-compliance, thereby protecting the company from legal and financial penalties.
- Inventory & Cost Optimization : Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all software assets, including licenses, installations, and usage data within a centralized Software Asset Management (SAM) tool. Utilize this data to identify opportunities for cost savings by consolidating licenses, reallocating unused ones, and negotiating more favorable terms with vendors.
- Vendor and Contract Management : Manage relationships with key software vendors. Negotiate new license agreements and renewals, and ensure strict adherence to all contractual obligations. Act as the primary point of contact for all licensing inquiries and compliance issues.
- Policy & Reporting : Develop and implement effective SAM policies and procedures to standardize operations and ensure consistent compliance across all departments. Generate detailed reports on software utilization, costs, and compliance metrics for management to support strategic decision-making.
Essential Skills And Qualifications :
- Education : Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience : Proven experience in IT asset management, software license management, or procurement, with a strong background in a large, complex organization.
- Technical Knowledge : Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, various software licensing models (e.g., perpetual, subscription, SaaS), and specialized Software Asset Management (SAM) tools such as Flexera, ServiceNow, or BMC Discovery.
- Analytical Skills : Excellent ability to analyze complex software usage data, identify trends, and develop actionable strategies for optimizing software assets and costs.
- Negotiation & Communication : Strong negotiation and vendor relationship management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels, from technical teams to senior leadership.
Preferred Skills :
- Relevant certifications such as Certified IT Asset Manager (CITAM), Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM), or ITIL.
- Experience with advanced reporting and business intelligence tools to create executive-level dashboards.
- Knowledge of cloud service provider licensing models for platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
