Power BI Lead

About the Role :

We are looking for a Power BI Lead to own the design, development, and governance of our Power BI reporting ecosystem. Our platform ingests data from multiple sources in near real time via Databricks, which feeds Power BI reports delivered to end users through Power BI Embedded. This role requires someone who is technically strong in Power BI end-to-end - data modelling, DAX, performance tuning, embedded delivery, and governance - and comfortable working closely with a Databricks-based data engineering stack.

What You'll Do :

- Own the Power BI architecture and roadmap, including semantic/dimensional models, workspace structure, and governance standards.

- Lead the design and development of complex reports and dashboards, ensuring performance, scalability, and usability.

- Work closely with Databricks engineers to understand upstream data pipelines, near real-time refresh patterns, and how they impact report design and data model choices.

- Own and optimize Power BI Embedded implementations, including capacity planning, row-level security (RLS), authentication, and licensing considerations.

- Define and enforce best practices for data modelling (star schema, relationships, measures), DAX optimization, and report performance.

- Troubleshoot complex performance issues - query folding, refresh failures, capacity bottlenecks, DAX inefficiencies - across the Power BI and Databricks layers.

- Partner with Product Owners/Business stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into scalable BI solutions.

- Set up and oversee data quality checks and validation processes for reports, working with engineering to resolve upstream issues.

- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other BI developers on the team.

- Own Power BI governance : workspace management, access controls, version control, and deployment pipelines (Power BI deployment pipelines / DevOps).

What We're Looking For :

- 6 - 8 years of experience in BI/reporting roles, with deep, hands-on Power BI expertise (data modelling, DAX, Power Query, RLS, performance tuning).

- Proven experience with Power BI Embedded - capacity management, authentication (service principal/master user), embedding patterns, and licensing.

- Working knowledge of Databricks - understanding how data pipelines, near real-time ingestion, and Delta tables feed into Power BI, and how to design models/refreshes accordingly.

- Strong understanding of dimensional/semantic modelling principles and best practices.

- Experience with data quality practices - validation, monitoring, and resolving data issues in a reporting context.

- Experience working on a reporting platform, data product, or analytics migration program (e.g., legacy BI tool to Power BI, on-prem to cloud).

- Ability to work cross-functionally with data engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders.

- Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills across the BI stack.

Good to Have :

- Experience in patient services, specialty pharmacy, hub operations, or another regulated healthcare domain.

- Familiarity with data governance/compliance considerations relevant to healthcare data (e.g., HIPAA).

- Experience with CI/CD for BI (Power BI deployment pipelines, Azure DevOps, or similar).

- Exposure to other Microsoft Fabric/Azure data services.
