Role Overview :

As a Principal Backend Engineer (AI-Focused), you will architect and lead the development of scalable backend systems while actively driving AI adoption across products.

You will play a key role in integrating AI-driven features, designing intelligent systems, and guiding teams on practical AI implementation strategies alongside core backend responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities :

Backend Architecture & Development :

- Own and evolve backend architecture across PHP (CodeIgniter/Laravel) and Node.js services.

- Design scalable systems using microservices or modular monoliths.

- Manage relational (MySQL) and non-relational (MongoDB) databases with strong data modeling practices.

- Build APIs and services that support AI-driven features and high-volume data processing.

AI & Intelligent Systems (Mandatory) :

- Integrate AI/ML models into backend systems (e.g., recommendation engines, personalization, predictive insights, automation tools).

- Work with AI APIs such as OpenAI, LangChain, or similar frameworks.

- Design backend workflows to interact with LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, and AI pipelines.

- Evaluate and implement AI-driven automation to enhance product capabilities.

- Collaborate with data teams for model deployment, monitoring, and optimization.

- Stay updated with emerging AI tools and assess their business applicability.

Technical Leadership :

- Lead architecture decisions involving AI and backend systems.

- Establish coding standards, scalability practices, and AI integration guidelines.

- Mentor engineering teams on modern backend patterns and AI adoption.

- Drive modernization of legacy systems with AI-first thinking.

Client & Stakeholder Communication :

- Act as a technical consultant for AI-enabled solutions.

- Translate business use cases into backend + AI execution strategies.

- Present PoCs, AI concepts, and backend workflows to stakeholders.

Scalability, Security & Performance :

- Ensure secure API design and AI data handling compliance.

- Optimize performance using caching, job queues, indexing, and distributed systems.

- Plan infrastructure scaling on AWS/GCP, especially for AI workloads.

Who Are You? :

- 10+ years of backend experience (PHP / Node.js).

- Strong hands-on experience integrating AI APIs or deploying ML-backed features.

- Experience with LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, or AI automation workflows is preferred.

- Strong system design and database architecture expertise.

- Experience leading teams and driving technical strategy.

- Ability to explain AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Good to Have :

- Experience with prompt engineering and AI cost optimization.

- Exposure to AI model fine-tuning or ML pipelines.

- Knowledge of MLOps or AI monitoring frameworks.
