Staff Software Engineer - Java

Position Summary :

- Provides supervision, mentors associates, assigns duties, builds team-based environments, sets performance expectations, conducts evaluations, and promotes recognition, coaching, and a belonging mindset.

About the Team :

The Marketplace Engineering team builds core platforms/services to enable vast selection, competitive prices, and best-in-class post-order experience for third-party sellers on the client's e-commerce platform. They manage seller lifecycles, monitor customer experience, and deliver high-value insights for assortment, pricing, and inventory.

The team collaborates with partner platforms to ensure top-tier experiences for sellers and customers. This role focuses on Marketplace Risk & Fraud Engineering.

Responsibilities :

- Architect, design, build, and deploy scalable technology solutions.

- Enhance sustainable engineering through best practices, high-quality code, documentation, testing, and monitoring.

- Estimate effort, identify risks, and plan execution.

- Mentor/coach team engineers, providing technical leadership.

- Identify broader issues/trends impacting the product/team.

What You'll Bring :

- 10+ years of experience in designing/developing highly scalable applications in product-based companies or R&D divisions.

- Strong computer systems fundamentals, DS/Algorithms, and problem-solving skills.

- 5+ years building microservices using Java.

- Strong experience with SQL/NoSQL databases (MySQL, MongoDB, HBase, Cassandra, Oracle, PostgreSQL).

- Expertise in systems design and distributed systems.

- Experience with large-scale distributed services, focusing on scalability and fault tolerance.

- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Must-Have Technical Skills :

- Microservices Development : Experience building at least 3-4 microservices from scratch

- Concurrency : Multithreading

- Databases : NoSQL (preferably MongoDB); SQL (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL)

- Distributed Systems : Apache Kafka

- Search Technology : Elasticsearch

- System Design : High-Level Design (HLD) expertise

- Scalability & Fault Tolerance : Experience with large-scale distributed services
