About the Role :
Were hiring a Staff Engineer Backend to lead architecture, design, and delivery of scalable microservices powering our core product suite. This is a senior IC role with technical leadership responsibilities. Youll work hands-on across mission-critical systems while mentoring engineers and shaping engineering practices org-wide.
This role goes beyond writing code - its about owning features end-to-end, solving complex system problems, optimising performance, and enabling rapid product scale in a modern fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Architecture & Design : Lead backend architecture using Java, Spring Boot, and event-driven microservices on Azure (or other cloud environments).
- Feature Ownership : Design, develop, and deploy resilient, fault-tolerant services for key modules like LOS, LMS, Embedded APIs, Co-lending, etc.
- Cross-functional Collaboration : Partner with Product, QA, DevOps, Security, and Frontend to deliver reliable and secure systems that meet business goals.
- System Optimisation : Improve latency, scalability, and fault-tolerance of backend systems handling large transaction volumes.
- Mentorship & Review : Review code, coach engineers (SDE2/3), and guide technical decision-making across multiple teams.
- Observability & Incident Handling : Lead efforts on monitoring, logging, and root cause analysis for live systems. Handle escalations when needed.
- Security & Compliance : Build with a focus on secure coding, data privacy, and adherence to financial regulatory standards.
- SDLC & CI/CD Ownership : Contribute across the full SDLC -testing, building, deploying, and maintaining production systems using DevOps best practices.
What Were Looking For :
Must-Haves :
- 810 years of backend engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a senior/staff-level capacity.
- Deep hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and REST/gRPC APIs.
- Prior experience in fintech, SaaS, or lending platforms is highly preferred and strongly weighted.
- Strong experience with event-driven systems, ideally using Kafka or similar.
- Proficient in cloud-native architecture, particularly on Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience deploying and managing services using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, Logstash, or Opentelemetry.
- Knowledge of security, encryption, and compliance practices relevant to financial systems.
- Ability to independently lead backend projects and influence technical direction across the org.
Nice-to-Haves :
- Working experience on B2B is a plus.
- Exposure to credit workflows like loan lifecycle, underwriting, collections, or co-lending.
- Contributions to open-source or internal tooling initiatives.
- Experience supporting production systems and interfacing with external partners or clients.
