Responsibilities:

- Own the roadmap, delivery, and reliability of Tessell's SQL Server engine integration.

- Hire, lead, and mentor a team of engineers and SQL Server DBAs; set technical direction and hiring bar.

- Drive automation for provisioning, high availability (Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances), and cross-region DR.

- Build and harden backup/restore, point-in-time recovery, and sanitised cloning within the Availability Machine for SQL Server.

- Automate lifecycle operations: patching, version upgrades, scaling with minimal downtime.

- Optimise SQL Server performance on cloud storage/compute and partner with the Operations Portal and SRE teams for fleet-scale operations.

- Collaborate with product to deliver customer-facing SQL Server capabilities.

Requirements:

- 8+ years in database engineering/administration and/or platform engineering, including 2+ years leading a team.

- Deep, hands-on SQL Server expertise in Always On AGs, FCIs, log shipping, backup/recovery, patching, and performance tuning.

- Experience running SQL Server on Windows and Linux, and on the cloud (Azure and/or AWS).

- Ability to automate database operations with code (Python/Go/C#/PowerShell, infrastructure-as-code).

- Solid understanding of HA/DR design, security, and operations at scale.

- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have:

- Experience building managed-database or DBaaS automation.

- Familiarity with Azure data services and cross-cloud architectures.

- Exposure to containers/Kubernetes and distributed orchestration.
