Software Engineer, Developer Platform

Summary :

The Software Engineer for the Developer Platform team designs, builds, and maintains the internal platform infrastructure that enables every engineering team at isolved to ship software faster, safer, and more consistently. This role is equal parts hands-on engineering and technical leadership authoring infrastructure-as-code modules, building Internal Developer Portal (IDP) capabilities in Python and ReactJS, hardening CI/CD pipelines, establishing paved-road patterns that scale across the organization, and leveraging AI and agentic programming to accelerate platform development.

The successful candidate will own critical platform building blocks including Terraform module libraries, Backstage plugins and scaffolder templates, shared NuGet packages, and GitHub Actions workflows. They will partner closely with application teams to identify infrastructure friction, reduce time-to-first-deploy for new services, and ensure platform offerings are secure, observable, and easy to adopt. This role provides frequent technical guidance to engineers across the organization, influencing architecture decisions and championing operational simplicity.

Core Job Duties :

- Designing and maintaining Terraform modules and IaC libraries for Azure-native infrastructure (Container Apps, Service Bus, Cosmos DB, Key Vault, APIM, Azure AI Foundry)

- Building and extending the Backstage-based Internal Developer Portal (Python), including software catalog plugins, scaffolder templates, and TechDocs integrations

- Developing and maintaining GitHub Actions workflows and reusable CI/CD templates for .NET, Python, and Node.js services

- Building shared platform libraries (NuGet packages, npm packages) consumed across engineering teams for consistent patterns around observability, messaging, and security

- Integrating and enforcing security scanning tooling (GitHub Advanced Security, Dependabot, SonarQube) within CI pipelines

- Implementing observability instrumentation including OpenTelemetry libraries, KQL dashboard templates, and alerting configurations

- Designing and building AI-powered developer tools and agentic workflows that automate platform operations, code generation, and developer self-service

- Evaluating and integrating AI-assisted development tools and MCP-based workflows to accelerate engineering productivity across the organization

- Partnering with architecture, application, and product teams to ensure platform capabilities align with organizational direction

- Writing and maintaining TechDocs documentation, architecture decision records (ADRs), and onboarding guides for all platform services

Job Complexity :

As a specialist in platform engineering, uses professional concepts to develop solutions for complex infrastructure and tooling challenges. Anticipates how changes in Azure services, security requirements, and development practices impact the platform, and proactively evolves platform offerings to keep isolved ahead of the curve.

Experience :

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelors degree.

Minimum Qualifications :

- 5 years developing software in a professional environment

- 2 years working with cloud infrastructure or platform engineering

- Ability to work independently to research and solve complex problems

Strong skills in :

- Azure

- C# / .NET

- Python (our IDP and many internal tools are Python-based)

- Terraform or equivalent IaC tooling

- CI/CD pipeline design (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)

- Git and trunk-based or GitFlow branching strategies

Experience with :

- .NET / ASP.NET Core

- Docker and containerization

- Azure Container Apps or Kubernetes

- Service Bus or pub/sub messaging patterns

- Infrastructure module authoring for team consumption

- AI-assisted development tools and agentic programming patterns (e.g., LLM-driven code generation, autonomous agents, prompt engineering)

- MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar AI integration frameworks

Experience with the following a plus :

- Backstage or other Internal Developer Portals

- OpenTelemetry / Application Insights / KQL

- Azure Key Vault and Managed Identity patterns

- Security tooling integration (SAST, SCA, DAST)

- Multi-agent orchestration frameworks (Semantic Kernel, A2A protocol, or similar)

- Azure Cosmos DB or other NoSQL databases

- Azure Policy or policy-as-code frameworks
