Senior Wordpress Developer - PHP

ROLE SUMMARY :

We are looking for a highly experienced, self-sufficient WordPress Developer & Administrator to fully own our Azure hosted website. This is a sole-contributor role - there is no internal WordPress expertise to rely on. You will independently handle all development, administration, performance, security, and Azure infrastructure, making sound technical decisions without escalation paths.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Development & Administration :

- Develop & maintain custom themes and plugins (PHP, JS, CSS)

- Build integrations with third-party APIs and services

- Manage WordPress core, plugin, and theme updates via staging

- Administer users, roles, and editorial workflows

- Optimise database performance (MySQL/MariaDB)

Infrastructure & Operations :

- Administer Azure App Service: slots, scaling, config, CI/CD

- Configure Azure CDN, Monitor, and Application Insights

- Harden security, manage backups, and respond to incidents

- Improve Core Web Vitals, caching, and load performance

- Document systems, processes, and all configuration decisions

REQUIREMENTS :

Technical Skills :

- PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3 proficiency

- MySQL query optimisation & database administration

- WordPress security hardening & vulnerability management

- Caching strategies (Redis, page cache, browser cache)

Experience & Approach :

- 4+ years professional WordPress development & administration

- Proven experience with high-traffic production sites

- Git version control; WP-CLI; CI/CD pipelines

- Comfortable working alone
