Sumo Logic - Senior Software Engineer I - Backend Technologies

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer I Backend to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the backend systems that power our core products. You will work closely with cross-functional teamsincluding frontend, DevOps, product, and QAto deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions that support millions of users.

As a senior engineer, you will take ownership of complex technical problems, contribute to architectural decisions, and guide the team in following best engineering practices. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, capable of breaking down ambiguous requirements, and committed to producing clean, extensible, and well-tested code.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, implement, and maintain backend services, APIs, and microservices using modern programming languages and frameworks.

- Optimize application performance, reliability, and scalability across distributed systems.

- Collaborate with product managers and architects to shape technical requirements and define system architecture.

- Ensure high standards of code quality through code reviews, automation, and adherence to engineering best practices.

- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.

- Mentor junior engineers, share knowledge, and foster a culture of technical excellence.

- Contribute to continuous integration and delivery pipelines, infrastructure improvements, and operational tooling.

- Advocate for security, compliance, and observability across all backend components.

Qualifications :

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

- 5+ years of experience building backend systems in languages such as Java, Go, Node.js, or Python.

- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architectures, and event-driven systems.

- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, caching strategies, and message queues.

- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

- Excellent problem-solving skills, communication abilities, and a strong sense of ownership.
