Senior Service Mesh Engineer

Job Overview :

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Service Mesh Engineer to design, implement, and optimize service mesh and L7 traffic-routing capabilities across large distributed systems.

This role requires expertise in service mesh platforms, advanced networking, and application-layer (L7) routing.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, build, and manage Service Mesh solutions using Istio, Linkerd, or Consul Connect.

- Configure and operate Envoy Proxy, including L7 filters and routing rules.

- Implement and optimize L7 routing strategies across microservices.

- Develop and maintain Kubernetes components (CRDs, Operators, networking).

- Automate workflows using Go or Python.

- Implement zero-trust security, mTLS, policy enforcement, and secure service-to-service communication.

- Troubleshoot networking issues (TCP/IP, HTTP/2, gRPC, TLS).

- Improve observability using metrics, tracing, and logging systems.

- Collaborate with SRE, platform, and security teams to ensure reliability and scalability.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- Expertise with Istio, Linkerd, Consul Connect, and service mesh architecture.

- Strong hands-on experience with Envoy Proxy configuration and extensions.

- Mandatory: Strong understanding and practical experience with L7 routing.

- Deep Kubernetes knowledge (CRDs, Operators, networking internals).

- Proficiency in Go or Python.

- Strong networking fundamentals : TCP/IP, HTTP/2, gRPC, TLS.

- Experience with zero-trust models and secure communication patterns.

- Advanced Linux skills and containerization experience (Docker, runtimes).

- Knowledge of observability (tracing, metrics, logs)
