Job Title : Senior Engineering Manager Backend

About the Role :
We are looking for a hands-on technology leader from a top-tier institution (IIT/NIT/BITS or equivalent global peers) with deep backend expertise to lead high-performing engineering teams in building scalable, high-impact products. This role combines technical excellence, strategic leadership, and people management to deliver best-in-class backend solutions in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Technical Leadership & Architecture :
- Lead the design and development of scalable backend systems using Java/Spring Boot or Python/Django.
- Architect and deliver microservices-based solutions and distributed systems with high availability and performance.
- Drive adoption of cloud-native practices leveraging AWS or Azure infrastructure.
- Oversee CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices to ensure rapid, reliable releases.
Team Management & Mentorship :
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 10+ engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Own hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and career development for the team.
- Provide technical guidance, review designs/code, and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.
Execution & Delivery :
- Execute projects in an Agile/Scrum environment with iterative, incremental delivery.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to align business goals with technical execution.
- Track progress, manage risks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality backend solutions.
Stakeholder Management & Problem Solving :
- Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to define technical strategy and roadmaps.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational challenges.
Requirements :
Must-Have :
- Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science or related field from a top-tier institution (IIT/NIT/BITS/global equivalent).
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience with a strong coding background in Java/Spring Boot or Python/Django.
- Proven experience architecting microservices and distributed systems at scale.
- Strong expertise in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and DevOps pipelines (CI/CD).
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing 10+ engineers including hiring, mentoring, and performance management.
- Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum processes and iterative delivery.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and stakeholder management abilities.
Good-to-Have :
- Domain experience in Healthcare or Insurance.
- Proven success in leading high-impact projects in fast-paced, growth-stage product companies.
- Track record of driving technical excellence and innovation in backend engineering.
