About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Migration Engineer to lead the migration of large-scale MySQL databases from on-premises environments to Amazon Aurora MySQL on AWS. This role is ideal for professionals with extensive expertise in database administration, cloud migration, performance optimization, and automation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, and executing end-to-end database migration strategies while ensuring near-zero downtime, data integrity, high availability, and optimal system performance. You will work closely with application, infrastructure, cloud, and DevOps teams to deliver successful enterprise-scale database migration projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Migration:

- Lead end-to-end migration of enterprise-scale MySQL databases (TB/PB scale) to Amazon Aurora MySQL.

- Design migration strategies using replication, Change Data Capture (CDC), and incremental synchronization techniques.

- Develop migration plans, execute production cutovers, rollback procedures, validation, and reconciliation activities.

- Ensure data consistency, integrity, and minimal downtime during migration.

Database Administration:

- Administer and maintain MySQL databases in production environments.

- Configure and manage MySQL replication, clustering, backup, and recovery strategies.

- Perform database health checks and proactively identify performance bottlenecks.

- Monitor database availability and implement high-availability solutions.

Performance Optimization:

- Analyze and optimize SQL queries for maximum efficiency.

- Perform query tuning, indexing, schema optimization, and performance troubleshooting.

- Optimize replication performance and resource utilization.

- Conduct capacity planning and database performance assessments.

AWS Database Services:

- Configure, deploy, and manage Amazon Aurora MySQL and Amazon RDS environments.

- Utilize AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) for migration activities.

- Manage backups, snapshots, disaster recovery, monitoring, and security configurations.

- Implement AWS best practices for database architecture and operations.

Automation & Scripting:

- Develop automation scripts using Python and Shell scripting.

- Automate migration validation, health checks, backups, monitoring, and operational tasks.

- Improve deployment efficiency through scripting and automation.

Cloud & Infrastructure:

- Work with AWS services including: IAM, CloudWatch, Amazon S3, and AWS Key Management Service (KMS).

- Collaborate with infrastructure and cloud engineering teams to optimize database deployments.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:

- Partner with application developers, DevOps engineers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders throughout the migration lifecycle.

- Provide technical guidance and recommendations during planning and implementation.

- Prepare technical documentation, migration runbooks, and operational procedures.

- Participate in architecture reviews and technical discussions.

Troubleshooting & Support:

- Investigate and resolve complex database issues.

- Perform root cause analysis for production incidents.

- Ensure compliance with security, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery standards.

- Provide post-migration support and stabilization.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

- 8+ years of experience as a MySQL DBA or Database Migration Engineer.

- Proven experience migrating large-scale MySQL databases (TB/PB scale) to AWS.

- Strong expertise in: MySQL Administration, Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, Indexing, Replication, Backup & Recovery, and High Availability.

- Hands-on experience with: Amazon Aurora MySQL, Amazon RDS, AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), and AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).

- Strong programming skills in: Python, SQL, and Shell Scripting.

- Experience working with: AWS IAM, CloudWatch, AWS KMS, and Amazon S3.

- Expertise in planning and executing zero or near-zero downtime migrations.

- Strong understanding of database validation, reconciliation, and production cutover planning.

Preferred Skills:

- Experience managing petabyte-scale database migrations.

- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins.

- Exposure to Kubernetes and containerized environments.

- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.

- Knowledge of database security, compliance, and disaster recovery planning.

- AWS Certification is preferred.
