Role Overview :
We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Developer to design, develop, optimize and maintain mission-critical SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases supporting enterprise SaaS applications.
Key Responsibilities :
- Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL scripts, queries, and stored procedures across both SQL Server (preferred) and PostgreSQL environments.
- Lead data migration, extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) activities across multiple SQL Server databases while collaborating with data partners and QA teams.
- Design and maintain customized database import templates and reusable extraction scripts to support client onboarding, reducing reliance on one-off manual scripting.
- Investigate and resolve data integrity and production issues, including deduplication, data consistency across multi-tenant environments, and root cause analysis.
- Perform regular database health checks, performance audits, and query optimization to proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Document database schemas, stored procedures, and data flows to support knowledge sharing and maintain technical documentation.
- Collaborate with the Solution Architect, DevOps, and Full Stack Development teams to align database design with overall platform architecture.
- Act as the technical escalation point for complex database issues and provide guidance on database best practices.
- Manage database maintenance activities, including performance tuning, indexing strategy, security, access control, and capacity planning.
Required Experience & Skills :
- 8-10 years of database development/administration.
- Significant hands-on, production-grade experience as a Database Developer senior level, with demonstrated ownership of mission-critical database systems.
- Expert-level proficiency writing complex SQL Server scripts, queries, and stored procedures able to design, optimise, and troubleshoot at an advanced level without supervision.
- Expert-level proficiency with PostgreSQL query writing, performance tuning, and administration, equivalent in depth to SQL Server expertise.
- Proven experience with large-scale data migration projects extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) across multiple source systems into a target platform.
- Strong understanding of data integrity principles deduplication logic, referential integrity, and data validation methodology.
- Experience working with multi-tenant or multi-client database architectures, with clear separation of client data.
- Familiarity with version control for database change management (migration scripts, schema versioning).
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills this role works directly with Australian product, architecture, and engineering leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of ambiguous data problems, and escalate risk clearly and early.
Information Security Responsibilities (SOC 2) :
- Comply with the organization's Information Security and Acceptable Use policies.
- Protect confidential, customer, and company information by following data classification and handling requirements.
- Implement and maintain least-privilege database access controls.
- Ensure secure database configurations, encryption, backup, and recovery practices.
- Promptly report information security incidents, vulnerabilities, or suspected breaches.
- Support security audits and compliance activities by maintaining accurate documentation.
- Follow secure change management practices for database deployments and schema changes.
- Ensure database activities comply with applicable legal, regulatory, and company requirements.
Preferred Experience :
- Prior experience in workforce management, staffing/recruitment, payroll, or other compliance-heavy SaaS domains.
- Experience supporting legacy framework migrations (e.g. .NET version upgrades) from a database compatibility perspective.
- Experience working with containerized database deployments or cloud-hosted database infrastructure (AWS RDS or equivalent).
- Exposure to payroll or workforce management software.
