Role & Responsibilities :
- Manage, administer, and maintain enterprise database environments across production, development, and test systems.
- Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and troubleshoot database servers and related components.
- Monitor database performance, availability, capacity, and overall health.
- Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and troubleshooting of performance issues.
- Implement and maintain High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), backup, and restore strategies.
- Manage database backup and recovery processes and ensure compliance with defined RPO/RTO requirements.
- Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, consolidations, and technology refreshes.
- Implement database security, access controls, roles, permissions, encryption, and auditing.
- Troubleshoot complex database incidents and provide root-cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.
- Work closely with application, infrastructure, DevOps, cloud, and security teams to support business-critical applications.
- Automate routine DBA activities using scripting and automation tools.
- Maintain database documentation, operational procedures, architecture diagrams, and disaster-recovery documentation.
- Participate in production deployments, change management, incident management, and on-call support when required.
- Monitor database capacity and proactively plan for future growth.
- Ensure databases comply with organizational security, governance, and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to improving DBA processes, standards, and best practices.
- Evaluate new database technologies and recommend improvements to database architecture and operations.
Preferred Candidate Profile :
- 5-10 years of experience in database administration, preferably in a large-scale enterprise or production environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with one or more major database platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar.
- Strong understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, backup/recovery, HA, and DR.
- Experience with Oracle RAC/Data Guard, SQL Server Always On, PostgreSQL replication, or equivalent HA/DR technologies is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows server environments.
- Experience with cloud database platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred.
- Working knowledge of cloud services such as AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or equivalent platforms is desirable.
- Strong SQL skills and experience troubleshooting complex queries and database performance issues.
- Experience with database monitoring and management tools.
- Proficiency in scripting/automation using Shell, Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
- Experience with database migration, upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and environment management.
- Good understanding of database security, access management, encryption, auditing, and compliance.
- Familiarity with ITIL, incident/change/problem management, and production support processes.
