Position Overview :
This position is responsible for execution of standard tasks that fall under the data platform administration domain.
Key Responsibilities :
Data Platform Administration :
Manage and maintain the following (but not limited to) data platforms :
- DataOps. Live open-source Gitlab platform and infrastructure administration
- Qlik Replicate change data capture tools against relational and document database sources and targeting cloud data warehouse
- Oracle Goldengate change data capture against Oracle database sources and targeting Kafka
Administration tasks of above platforms include (but not limited to) :
- Problem diagnosis & resolution
- Configuration, Patching, and Upgrades
- On-Call Rotation (after introductory period)
Cloud & Hybrid Environments :
Support on-prem, hybrid and cloud-based data platforms
- Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Windows Server and Linux Administration
- Kubernetes, Docker containers, etc.
Monitor and optimize data platform usage and costs (FinOps)
Performance & Optimization :
- Conduct performance tuning and optimization efforts.
- Analyze workloads and recommend improvements.
- Implement capacity planning and resource management.
Security & Compliance :
- Enforce data security policies, including access controls and encryption.
- Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Perform regular audits and vulnerability assessments.
Automation & Scripting
- Develop and maintain automation scripts for backups, monitoring, and deployments.
- Use tools like PowerShell, Python, or Bash to streamline administrative tasks.
- Support Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices using tools like Python, YAML, Terraform or Ansible.
Collaboration & Support :
- Work closely with data engineers, developers, and analysts to support data workflows.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior administrators.
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis.
- Participate in project planning and technical design.
- Provide support to application developers and collaborate with other teams.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience :
- Bachelors degree in computer science or related field - 16 years of formal education.
- 7+ years of experience with data platform administration/engineering or equivalent work.
- Advanced knowledge of data platforms, principles, and security.
- Advanced proficiency with SQL.
- Experience with Windows and Linux server administration.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and automation tools.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Confirmed ability to acquire knowledge of new data technologies while on the job.
- Confirmed ability to execute tasks independently, to self-initiate work, and to engage with work deeply.
- Confirmed ability to pay meticulous attention to details.
- Confirmed ability to meet goals and deadlines.
- Confirmed ability to quickly diagnose issues and come up with solutions and/or workarounds.

- Experience with 24x7 on-call.
- Availability for 24x7 on-call on a rotational basis.
