Role: Senior Backup Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backup Engineer with strong expertise in enterprise backup and recovery solutions, particularly Rubrik. The ideal candidate should have deep hands-on experience in backup administration, troubleshooting, backup operations (BAU), replication, and backup infrastructure management.

This role requires an individual with a strong operational background who can ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of enterprise backup environments, while proactively managing backup failures, SLA adherence, and system optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Backup Administration & Operations:

- Manage and support enterprise backup infrastructure with a primary focus on Rubrik Backup Solutions.

- Perform day-to-day BAU (Business-As-Usual) backup operations, monitoring, and maintenance of backup environments.

- Ensure successful completion of scheduled backups and recovery operations while maintaining agreed SLAs.

- Configure, administer, and optimize backup policies, retention policies, replication, and recovery workflows.

2. Troubleshooting & Incident Management:

- Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve backup failures, replication issues, and infrastructure-related incidents.

- Perform detailed backup failure analysis, root cause identification, and corrective actions.

- Troubleshoot issues related to backup jobs, storage performance, network bottlenecks, and recovery failures.

- Handle critical incidents and provide timely resolution within defined service levels.

3. Rubrik Platform Management:

- Configure and maintain Rubrik clusters, SLA domains, policies, archival, and replication configurations.

- Ensure proper management of data protection, disaster recovery, and backup optimization strategies.

- Work on backup scheduling, retention, deduplication, and data lifecycle management.

- Perform upgrades, patching, and health checks for the backup infrastructure.

4. Monitoring & Performance Optimization:

- Continuously monitor backup systems to ensure availability, efficiency, and compliance.

- Analyze system performance and recommend improvements for backup success rates and operational stability.

- Ensure proactive monitoring and reporting of backup infrastructure health.

5. Collaboration & Documentation:

- Work closely with infrastructure, storage, network, and cloud teams to resolve backup-related dependencies.

- Maintain detailed technical documentation, SOPs, incident reports, and recovery procedures.

- Participate in operational reviews and contribute to process improvements.

Required Skills & Experience:

Technical Skills:

- 5-7+ years of strong hands-on experience in Rubrik Backup Administration (preferred).

- Deep expertise in Rubrik Backup & Recovery Solutions, including configuration and troubleshooting.

- Strong experience in Backup & Restore Operations (BAU Support).

- Hands-on experience in SLA/domain configuration, backup policies, and replication management.

- Strong troubleshooting experience in backup failures, restore failures, and replication issues.

- Experience with enterprise backup environments, disaster recovery, and data protection strategies.

- Understanding of storage, virtualization, networking, and infrastructure environments.

- Experience working in 24x7 support/operations environments is an added advantage.

Preferred Technical Exposure:

- Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or cloud backup environments.

- Familiarity with storage technologies and enterprise infrastructure management.

- Exposure to scripting/automation for backup operations will be an added advantage.

Educational Qualification:

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
