Senior Backend Engineer - Node.js/TypeScript

Position Overview :

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale the core services powering our next-generation healthcare platform. This role will focus on delivering secure, high-performance backend systems that support web and mobile applications (iOS and Android) in a cloud-native environment.

You will work in a modern, AI-assisted engineering organization leveraging Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Node.js, and TypeScript, within a GitHub-based DevSecOps workflow. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical execution and the ability to deliver in a fast-paced, distributed team environment.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript

- Build and manage APIs (REST/GraphQL) supporting mobile (iOS/Android) and web applications

- Implement cloud-native solutions in GCP (Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Cloud SQL)

- Ensure adherence to security, privacy, and compliance requirements (HIPAA-aligned architecture)

- Implement authentication and authorization (OAuth2, JWT, RBAC)

- Optimize performance, scalability, and reliability

- Design data models and manage database integrations

- Collaborate with distributed teams (mobile, product, DevOps)

- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices

- Participate in code reviews and enforce engineering standards

- Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code)

- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues

Required Qualifications :

- 5+ years backend engineering experience

- Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript

- Experience with API-driven architectures

- Hands-on experience with GCP (or AWS/Azure)

- Understanding of microservices and distributed systems

- Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)

- Familiarity with GitHub workflows and CI/CD

- Strong understanding of backend security practices

- Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience in healthcare or regulated environments (HIPAA)

- Familiarity with FHIR/EHR integrations

- Event-driven architecture (Pub/Sub, Kafka)

- Docker, Kubernetes (GKE)

- Observability tools (logging, monitoring, tracing)
