Scala Developer - Play Framework

Job Title : Scala Developer

Location : Onsite Bangalore / Mumbai

Experience Required : 7+ Years

Notice Period : Immediate Joiners Preferred

Employment Type : Contract (6 months extendable)

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Scala.

- Collaborate closely with product managers, frontend developers, and QA teams to deliver robust business solutions.

- Optimize and refactor existing codebases for scalability, maintainability, and performance.

- Ensure clean, testable, and well-documented code adhering to coding standards and best practices.

- Develop services and applications using frameworks like Play, Akka, or Lagom.

- Work on event-driven architecture and integrate messaging platforms like Kafka.

- Participate in code reviews and actively mentor junior team members to promote engineering excellence.

- Interface with SQL/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.) and third-party APIs.

- Build and maintain data pipelines using Apache Spark or similar big data technologies, if needed.

- Contribute to DevOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines using tools like Git, Docker, and Jenkins.

Required Skills :

- Strong hands-on experience in Scala programming and functional programming paradigms.

- Proficiency with Play Framework, Akka, or Lagom for developing reactive microservices.

- Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, Microservices Architecture, and API integrations.

- Solid expertise in concurrency, asynchronous programming, and stream processing.

- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases : PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.

- Familiarity with build tools such as SBT, Maven, and version control using Git.

- Experience working with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.

- Comfortable in Agile/Scrum methodologies with a focus on continuous improvement.

Preferred / Nice to Have :

- Hands-on experience with Apache Spark, Kafka, or other big data technologies.

- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Azure.

- Understanding of DevOps principles, container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code.

- Proficiency with testing tools like ScalaTest, Specs2, or Mockito.
