Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Dev Lead (Django) to lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable backend systems using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework (DRF). The ideal candidate will possess strong technical leadership skills, deep expertise in backend architecture and database optimization, and the ability to mentor engineering teams while driving high-quality software delivery.

This role requires a balance of hands-on development, architectural decision-making, code quality ownership, and team mentorship to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable applications.

Key Responsibilities :

Backend Development & Architecture :

- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of backend applications using Python and Django.

- Architect scalable, secure, and maintainable systems aligned with business and product requirements.

- Develop clean, reusable, and well-documented code following engineering best practices.

- Drive technical discussions and contribute to system architecture and solution design.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, QA, DevOps, and Frontend teams.

Database Design & Performance Optimization :

- Design scalable and efficient database schemas and relational models.

- Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and efficient ORM usage.

- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks such as N+1 queries, inefficient joins, and redundant database operations.

- Review schema changes and ensure scalability and maintainability of data models.

- Utilize advanced Django ORM capabilities and implement raw SQL where necessary for optimization.

API Development (Django REST Framework) :

- Design and develop scalable RESTful APIs using Django REST Framework (DRF).

- Implement and customize serializers, viewsets, permissions, authentication, and middleware.

- Ensure API performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.

- Establish API standards and best practices across the engineering team.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship :

- Lead and mentor backend developers through technical guidance, architecture reviews, and code reviews.

- Promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and development processes.

- Help team members understand trade-offs between performance, scalability, maintainability, and development speed.

- Drive technical excellence and continuous improvement within the engineering team.

Code Reviews & Quality Assurance :

- Conduct detailed code reviews to ensure high code quality and maintainability.

- Identify and address logical issues, architectural flaws, security vulnerabilities, performance bottlenecks, and scalability concerns.

- Ensure reliable, production-ready implementations with strong focus on performance and stability.
