Role Overview :

The Power BI Developer is a specialized technical role requiring expertise in the end-to-end development, optimization, and administration of Microsoft Power BI solutions.

This is a long-term 12+ month contract position, starting Remote with a potential transition to a 3 days onsite schedule upon conversion to full-time status.

The incumbent will focus on developing high-performance DAX data models, managing Power BI Service components, and designing complex, user-centric visualizations.

Job Summary :

We are seeking a proficient Power BI Developer with strong expertise in DAX, Power Query, and robust data modeling principles. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing interactive, high-impact dashboards and reports, ensuring data accuracy and performance optimization across all solutions. Key responsibilities include configuring scheduled data refreshes, managing Power BI Deployment Pipelines and workspaces, and collaborating directly with business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into technically sound, insightful Power BI apps.

Key Responsibilities and Technical Deliverables :

Data Modeling and Optimization :

- Develop and optimize highly efficient data models using advanced techniques in DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), focusing on measure creation, calculated columns, and optimized table relationships.

- Utilize Power Query (M Language) for data ingestion, transformation, shaping, and cleaning from diverse data sources.

- Apply a Strong understanding of data modeling principles (e.g., Star Schema, Snowflake Schema) to ensure model performance, scalability, and maintainability.

Power BI Service Administration and Governance :

- Configure and manage critical Power BI service components to ensure smooth enterprise operation.

- Set up and monitor Scheduled data refreshes for timely data availability, troubleshooting failures as necessary.

- Manage Workspace organization for development, testing, and production environments, implementing security roles and access controls.

- Utilize Deployment pipelines (Dev, Test, Prod) for disciplined report lifecycle management.

- Manage the Publishing and maintaining of Power BI apps for end-user consumption.

Advanced Visualization and UI/UX :

- Design and implement highly interactive and insightful visualizations that align with UI/UX best practices.

- Incorporate advanced features such as KPIs, drill-through/drill-down functionality, bookmarks, custom tooltips, and buttons for enhanced user experience.

- Develop a variety of standard and custom visuals, including bar charts, pie charts, tables, slicers, and complex matrix reports.

- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize Power BI reports and datasets for performance and usability.

Stakeholder Collaboration :

- Collaborate directly with stakeholders to gather detailed requirements (functional and non-functional) and translate them into technical specifications and impactful Power BI solutions.

- Ensure data accuracy, performance, and usability across all deployed Power BI solutions, serving as a data quality gatekeeper.

Mandatory Skills & Qualifications :

- Language Proficiency : Proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M Language) for data transformation and measure creation.

- Data Architecture : Strong understanding of data modeling principles (Star Schema, relational database concepts).

- Service Administration : Experience with Power BI service administration (Workspaces, Security, Gateways, Scheduled Refreshes).

- Visualization : Expertise in Advanced visualization techniques and UI/UX best practices for dashboard design.

- Optimization : Ability to troubleshoot and optimize Power BI reports and datasets for efficiency and speed.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience using external tools like Tabular Editor or DAX Studio for advanced model optimization and management.

- Experience with Power Platform components (Power Apps, Power Automate) integration with Power BI.

- Familiarity with database systems (SQL Server, Azure Synapse, etc.) and direct query connectivity.
