ROLE PURPOSE :

We are looking for an Engineering Manager - Frontend to lead and scale the frontend platforms powering Pine Labs Online payments, including hosted checkout, iframe-based checkout, mobile SDKs, and e-commerce plugins.

This role combines strong people leadership, frontend architecture ownership, and deep understanding of payments-grade reliability, security, and performance. You will work closely with backend, platform, security, and product teams to deliver highly reliable, low-latency, and secure payment experiences across web, mobile, and partner ecosystems.

RESPONSIBILITIES WE ENTRUST YOU WITH :

Engineering Leadership :

- Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing frontend engineers across multiple teams

- Drive technical excellence, code quality, and delivery discipline

- Own career growth, performance reviews, and hiring

- Act as the technical escalation point for frontend systems .

Architecture & Design :

- Own frontend architecture for scalable, modular, and secure payment flows

- Design systems supporting :

1. High TPS

2. Low latency checkout

- Graceful degradation and retries .

- Define standards for SDK design, plugin extensibility, and versioning .

- Ensure frontend systems align with backend APIs and domain boundaries.

Payments-Domain Engineering :

- Design secure and compliant checkout experiences

- Handle edge cases like :

1. Network failures

2. Duplicate submissions

3. Partial responses

4. Retry and idempotency scenarios

- Collaborate with backend teams on API contracts, schema evolution, and backward compatibility

- Ensure PCI-aware frontend practices (tokenization, sensitive data handling)

Security & Compliance :

- Enforce secure coding practices (XSS, CSRF, clickjacking, iframe isolation)

- Ensure correct use of :

1. Content Security Policy (CSP)

2. SameSite cookies

3. CORS

- Work closely with AppSec and InfoSec teams

- Drive regular security reviews and vulnerability remediation.

Performance & Reliability :

- Own frontend performance benchmarking (TTFB, FCP, LCP, CLS)

- Optimize :

1. Bundle size

2. Runtime performance

3. Memory usage (especially for SDKs)

- Design for observability :

1. Frontend metrics

2. Error tracking

- Distributed tracing correlation with backend

- Ensure SLA/SLO adherence for checkout journeys .

Quality & Testing :

- Drive unit testing (UT) and functional testing (FT) standards

- Enforce automation for :

1. SDK regression

2. Plugin compatibility.

WHAT MATTERS IN THIS ROLE :

Experience & Portfolio :

- React, modern React patterns

- Redux and state management best practices

- Functional Programming concepts

- Strong JavaScript / TypeScript fundamentals.

- Strong understanding of Node.js

- REST API design & integration

- Authentication mechanisms (OAuth, tokens, signatures)

- Error handling, retries, and timeout strategies.

Technical Skills & Efficiency :

- Frontend logging, metrics, and error tracking

- Performance monitoring tools

- Ability to correlate frontend issues with backend failures.

- Experience building and maintaining SDKs (Web/Mobile)

- Versioning, backward compatibility, and deprecation strategies

- Partner integration supports mindset

Communication & Ownership :

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

- Ability to work with both business and engineering teams.

- Attention to detail and strong ownership mindset.

- Ability to manage multiple integrations in parallel.

Nice To Have :

- Prior experience in payments, fintech, or checkout systems

- Exposure to PCI-DSS aligned systems

- Experience with iframe-based security models

- Open-source contributions or internal platform building experience

Working from office :

- As of now, we work out of our offices, 5 days a week.
