Job Title: OpenWRT / prpl Platform Software Engineer

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced OpenWRT / prpl Platform Software Engineer to develop carrier-grade software solutions for Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 and 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) routers based on Airoha/MediaTek chipsets. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing high-performance networking software stacks, implementing device management protocols, and building scalable embedded Linux platforms for telecom and broadband operators.

Key Responsibilities:

OpenWRT Development:

1. Customize and maintain OpenWRT build systems and package configurations.

2. Develop and optimize embedded Linux applications and services.

3. Manage operator-specific software distributions and firmware releases.

- Networking & Protocol Development

Design and implement advanced networking features including:

1. IPv4 / IPv6

2. DHCPv4 / DHCPv6

3. SLAAC

4. Prefix Delegation (PD)

5. MAP-T, MAP-E, and DS-Lite

Develop Layer 2/3 networking solutions with:

1. Linux Bridge

2. VLAN (802.1Q / QinQ)

3. Hardware Offloading

Implement and optimize:

1. Multi-WAN

2. Failover mechanisms

3. Policy-Based Routing (PBR)

4. IGMP/MLD Snooping and Proxy services

- Device Management & Standards:

1. Implement and support TR-181 data models, TR-098 device models, and USP (TR-369).

2. Develop remote management and provisioning solutions for broadband devices.

System Architecture:

1. Design scalable and modular software architectures for complex Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).

2. Integrate middleware and third-party software components across embedded platforms.

3. Drive software design reviews and architectural decisions.

- Debugging & Performance Optimization

1. Diagnose and resolve critical system issues including kernel panics, memory leaks, deadlocks, and race conditions.

2. Perform packet-level analysis and network troubleshooting using Wireshark, Tcpdump, GDB, Valgrind, and JTAG debugging tools.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

- Strong hands-on experience with OpenWRT platform development.

- Proficiency in C and C++ programming for embedded systems.

- Strong understanding of Linux internals and embedded Linux development.

- Deep knowledge of networking protocols and broadband gateway technologies.

- Experience with carrier-grade router software development.

Networking Expertise:

- IPv4/IPv6 protocol stack implementation.

- Routing, switching, VLANs, QoS, and traffic management.

- Broadband technologies and operator-grade networking solutions.

Device Management:

- Hands-on experience with TR-181, TR-098, and USP/TR-369 frameworks.

- Knowledge of ACS and remote device management ecosystems.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Chipset & Platform Experience

1. Experience with Airoha SDKs and MediaTek Wi-Fi drivers.

2. Familiarity with chipset-level software integration and optimization.

- Broadband & Telecom Standards

1. Knowledge of RDK-B, prplOS, prplLCM, Broadband Forum standards, and QoS & Traffic Optimization.

- Experience implementing Traffic Shaping, QoS/QoE optimization, Traffic classification, TBF, and FQ-CoDel.

- Ability to optimize user experience for latency-sensitive applications such as gaming and VoIP.

- Security

1. Experience with Firewall4 (nftables), iptables, WireGuard, and IPSec VPNs.

2. Understanding of hardware crypto acceleration.

- Performance Expectations

1. Deliver highly reliable and resource-optimized software suitable for 24/7 carrier deployments.

2. Minimize defect resolution timelines and support field trial activities.

3. Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and software releases.

4. Maintain high code quality through reviews, testing, and documentation.

Education:

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related field.
